Especially when you see the lovely artwork inside

I was thinking about what I've gifted, love the idea of filling friends gifts with unexpected books

This exactly 😐

Instantly recognised at AI, good teaching moment as I showed my 9 year what to look to identify it as AI.
I find it bewildering as I'm certain they had loads of art to pick from ...some spectacular artists in the calendar too!

I might borrow that Sarah Crossan one from the library then....

I had started this and got distracted

This is what I would recommend
Why you should read children's book even though you are old and wise.
Away with words
The Final Year
When Stars are scattered

Don't doubt yourself. These are books that are shared with a child so you can be brave with them.
I loved when my little one was older and he returned to these to them read independently
Now he is 9 we still have some of these books scattered around and he will read them still

So I just looked at photos from when my little one was 3
Emily Gravett - Again, Meerkat Mail
The snowman, journey - ahhhh soon many books! Enjoy.
I would also say look in charity shops too as they don't all need to be new and you know a good book! ♥️

I'm so excited by all the book options - so many to choose from and books that eventually he will read himself in the future too
November 30, 2025 at 11:07 AM
Don't trust fish isn't poetry just hilarious
November 30, 2025 at 11:05 AM
Same publisher and the books are huge so very exciting for a younger child.
November 30, 2025 at 11:05 AM
The shape ones are brilliant too from Klassen.
I was just thinking poetry too - there are so many fab books for that age.
Have you got Don't trust fish on the list?
November 30, 2025 at 11:04 AM
Oh we have this. It's brilliant - I've been sharing it with my wee one since he was about 3 too. I must dig it out and have another look.
They have other great books that are brilliant for that age and above too. There is one with different types of schools (for animals) on each page.

It's brilliant I have a copy. My 9 year old hasn't read it yet but I've shared a few sections with him. Really interesting ⭐

Jon Klassen books
Also mix it up with non fiction and exposure to lots of different texts.

Great topic! I've only read the Artezans from these 4.
I have been delving into Irish authors, I still share and recommend Scottish ones too though.
I don't think I'll have any surprises to share though

November 15, 2025 at 8:46 AM
I'm taking it today as I go to collect a pal
November 14, 2025 at 9:29 AM
Had a think and I've picked these four
All very different! Different ages and different types of friendships
