Normally morning reading relaxes me, but I've been restless since reading the author's intro to Stephen Taylor's "Commander." Then I realized why: can't do any substantial writing till the summer, but I can get my own intro down and start digging through my thesis...

Sometimes subscribing to a bunch of periodicals sucks. Added fine new books to my "to be read" list from this issue alone. (Visiting the library tomorrow.) Though if I live as long as there are books I want to read, I'm in decent shape...

1. "Treasure Island" with Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper from 1934. My dad had an old VHS that I wore out...recently wore out the DVD copy I managed to find too. Fortunately it's also on Amazon Prime... :)

Was looking through my desk for an extra file folder and found the pile of research, blog posts, and assorted drafts I'd written on Cesar Tarrant before the #McMullen2025 paper. Better be careful, or I'll find yet another thread to follow up on...

Another naval history snippet courtesy of John Paul Jones and the Plenary Session of #McMullen2025. OTD in 1779, Officials at the Texel sketched the American flag flying from the frigate Alliance. On the 3rd, they had sketched the flag flying from HMS Serapis, captured by Jones on 23 September.

This is suddenly reminding me of how I discovered the series "The Last Ship" in the midst of Covid. It went off the rails around the third season, but the first two were fairly solid.
