But what this show really highlights is the personal charm and cheeky irreverence of the boys. I think that's what made them THE BEATLES even more than the music. Without that? I think their career could easily have been like Gerry and the Pacemakers.

The music, especially the early tracks are fun and catchy, but I don't think they're GENIUS in the way the music became with (arguably) RUBBER SOUL and REVOLVER.

When I talk about music with anyone, and they say, "I like The Beatles?" I immediately want to say, "yes, and?" That's not disparaging the band, it's just... The Beatles are like oxygen, everybody likes them, they're (rightly) ubiquitous. I immediately want to dig further.

I literally cannot wait for Chicago to learn what we're adapting. To see what @citylittheater.bsky.social and I are cooking up.

There's still work to do. Workshops this year and next. A tighter, leaner script, the right cast to give it breath and life, and the perfect production team (we've already talked to a few people that I respect with all my heart).

I'm adapting, so it's not all me, but I feel my sense of self in the words. I can feel my father, my grandfather. Men who worked with their hands and made the world better, made me better. It's to them I will dedicate this show.
