Using the definition from my post...I also think there's probably a stage of development past with it doesn't make sense to worry about a "conceptual" explanation. If you know the distance formula maybe the underlying generalization isn't useful to you any longer.

I think I didn't mean "sample space," or maybe I did, idk. But I think what it's sensitive to is the randomization procedure.

What I remember from thinking about which is more likely with 3 points (obtuse or acute) is you have to define the sample space really really really carefully.

I think those specific-heavy explanations usually have the seeds of a general principle, but that's the point -- it's implicit, our job is to nudge students to see it more explicitly.
