I think therefore I am-cogito ergo sum
AUKUS is worst decision from our political duopoly
Exorbitant, unexplained & unjustified
Commits Australia to
1.Australian bases for UK & USA nuclear submarines
2.Being target of USA confrontation with China

You mean like Britain was anchored to Singapore before WWII

I would anticipate that meaningful progress would only occur with Albanese stepping out of negotiations

Yes they pay tax and then apply for a rebate. Not just mining but all off road diesel fuel users including farmers and other business.

I would not trust any politician from our duopoly to put the interests of the people before the interests of their party. The NACC and other recent legislation from our political duopoly show that weasel words have to be removed from any environmental legislation

Our political duopoly will not do anything substantial that puts the welfare of the people before themselves & their donors. YES I am cynical after COVID, NACC, AUKUS, transparency & accountability, whistleblowers, Gaza, gambling, climate, media, consultancies, environment, housing, health now CSIRO

Point I was making Peter was taxing fossil fuels is fine but Barbara's comment "cut handouts to fossil fuel barons" was misleading because,
1. It is not a handout it is a rebate of tax paid
2. It goes to all off road users eg farms
3. It goes to fossil fuel users not barons, whatever they are

Corporation directors and management must act 'in good faith in the best interests of the corporation'. Any philanthropy is to this end.

And..?
November 26, 2025 at 3:27 AM
Sorry Barbara, I am your supporter but your comments are misleading. The Diesel Fuel Rebate was introduced to tax heavy vehicle movement on public roads to pay for road repairs. Usage of diesel on private roads such as in mines and farms was logically exempted. So not a handout but a tax exemption.

Abolish the luxury car tax and any other taxes that were supposedly introduced to protect our now non-existent local car production

That’s a market economy and it may encourage households to buy and cook better meals. Double win for the consumer.
