The U.S. Supreme Court justices are coming back today for a two-week sitting of oral arguments. Along with the arguments scheduled for January, the two sittings will include arguments in two cases addressing a key question of this moment: Does Congress really matter any longer?

Law Dork:
The upcoming SCOTUS cases over Trump's firing powers could change America
This latest iteration of a 250-year old debate goes much further than earlier generations would have thought possible — or advisable. And, for paid, subscribers: Closing my tabs.

This AP news story is incredible from front to back but I wanted to flag something super serious and wildly illegal that may have flown under the radar. It’s called parallel construction and it’s when intel is washed from spy agencies and used by local cops. apnews.com/article/immi...

The U.S. Border Patrol is monitoring millions of American drivers nationwide in a secretive program to identify and detain people whose travel patterns it deems suspicious.

Nuzzi is like Trump in this sense: the worst thing about America is not that someone that awful exists, the worst thing is that much of the press promotes and normalizes it for clicks.

By sending us $2,000 to give to billionaire insurance CEOs, and by tripling the interest we pay to mortgage companies while he continues to limit what we can write off, he's effectively looting the treasury and using us a mules to launder the stolen money; funneling it to the wealthy.
QUINTANILLA: What's more likely -- a $2,000 tariff rebate check or a 50 year mortgage?

HASSETT: They're both really good ideas

It’s wild to suggest this is a circular firing squad or something when it’s millions of citizen Democrats who hate it versus 47 elected Democrats who conspired to surrender for nothing.

We’re not fighting “each other,” we’re fighting you. There’s only a few dozen of you, but you hold all the power.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.
