My parents were free-wheeling Boomers convinced things were only ever going to get better, financially. They had good reason, then. They could afford a house, car, and weekly nights out on two full time assistant manager jobs at a fast food chain. But they also got caught up in emulating wealth trap

AI chatbots can sway voters with remarkable ease — is it time to worry?
Experiments involving real-world voters show how talking to a chatbot can shape people’s political opinions.

Okay. Could be worse. From the coder:

There are no AI features in calibre unless you explicitly enable them. You dont even need to disable the plugins, they do nothing (even their code is not loaded) until and unless they are configured. The worst you get is a few menu entries. Simply ignore them.

"All is lost" narratives are popular because people generally do not want to take action. Taking action is tiring so if all is lost, you are off the hook. Nothing is more seductive than not having to do anything.

Let's be very clear that one of the major effects of the CDC no longer recommending various vaccinations is that it becomes much harder for folks who still want to be—or want their children to be—vaccinated to get their insurance providers to cover those vaccinations.

The sheer number of things a billionaire could fix just by throwing money — thereby becoming an overnight hero *while still living in total luxury* —

Like, I don’t get it. I work in community mental health. We could change so many lives with some billionaire’s pocket lint. Make it make sense.
Just thinking about how fucked up mega-rich people must be, because they can't even enjoy their money properly, because the most enjoyable thing to do with money is to use it to fix people's problems.
