I believe in "the death of the artist"-- the principle that viewers get to add their own interpretations and views to artwork once it is public, regardless of the artist's original intent. If you find importance in this card, don't throw that away just because the artist is an asshole.

So long as using the card doesn't support the artist financially-- which I can't see how it would, because you already own the card-- I think it's entirely possible to acknowledge the impact a piece of art has had on you without agreeing with the artist. Your memories do have value too.

Ultimately, you have to determine for yourself where the line is. But if you want my opinion-- I think you should include the card. Regardless of the artist being an awful person, the card itself obviously has sentimental value to you. Using it doesn't mean you endorse the artist's politics.

I sympathize with your dilemma, Thea. I adore the movies Se7en and The Usual Suspects, both of which obviously hit different now that we know what we know about Kevin Spacey. And I find it harder to enjoy works by Picasso or Dali knowing that one abused women and the other was a fascist sympathizer.
