we elementary teachers are seeing the same thing. kids crave screens, demand answers be provided rather than sought, refuse to engage in any way. and i teach in taiwan, still a relatively traditional and respectful culture. it's becoming unbearable and we're about to lose a *lot* of teachers.

i can tell you right now this is a global thing and it's starting *way* younger than that. much of the generation at or approaching school age now is already fucked. those of us teachers who choose not to be complicit are genuinely feeling traumatised.

monster who is perhaps every bit as culpable as michael in what transpires. i need to go and digest this some more as i'm just havering right now, but i enjoyed it far more than i expected to, and honestly think it ranks among the best of the myers halloween movies.

reckoning is coming. a lot of the film's success hinges on performances. scout taylor-compton does a wonderful job, as does brad douriff, on whose shoulders a lot of the emotional weight lies. malcolm mcdowell also did great work in bringing this despicable version of loomis to life, a human 5/x

we're given some of it for entertainment, but at times it's devastating. in between we bear witness to laurie's rapid deterioration and the effect this has on those around her. the infamous vision sequences serve to punctuate this, to give us some relief while also reminding us that a final 4/x

excellent 'this way lies madness' anthology. admittedly it's sometimes difficult to see this behind the chaos which is unfolding on the screen. the action is unrelentingly brutal and really does not take any prisoners. even for zombie this one goes hard, from the sound design to the camerawork. 3/x

story about how trauma can affect everyone in its vicinity, breaking some down and turning others into monsters, all told through rob zombie's hyper-violent lens of fractured americana. themes like that are fresh in my head both from my ongoing struggles with mental health as well as reading the 2/x

this viewing had a much greater effect on me than before, i think because i had watched the previous movie just beforehand and it had primed me just perfectly for it. but i think there's perhaps more to it than just that. what really struck me on this run-through was just how much this is a 1/x

you can really feel the weight on sheriff brackett's shoulders, douriff does such a good job of making him feel totally beaten down but trying his best to keep going for the girls
