Trying to watch more cricket than I write about. 🏏 Seeing two books through the presses. One is about Nancy Sharp [https://tinyurl.com/2736jaw4]. C.L.R. James and John Arlott both get a mention in the other one [https://tinyurl.com/465bnwzv].

He should have played red ball cricket from day 1, instead of thinking he was too good to have to bother with it.

St Botolph, who once had the functional Colchester Town station named in his honour. I am all for clarity in naming, but I do this miss one.

Seems reasonable as an opening.

Exactly. My point isn’t that there won’t be players, it’s that at some stage we’ll run out of time for the tournaments that want to attract the elite, as this one presumably does as it refers to itself as offering a “Wimbledon“-like experience.

Or not 🤣

Half the runs at a good clip. I expect NZ about 350-7 when I wake up.

I believe someone forgot it’s called Football.

At some point someone is going to have to consider that just because there’s a window it doesn’t mean there will be players. At some stage of the year, players will want a break. This “tournament“ that is an enforced stay in one place doing the same thing over and over might well be the one to skip.

Not one of his surviving sermons is hours long. They are typical for the period and all are remarkably accessible for the congregation. Though he does ment falling asleep in church: in fact he has a whole sermon on it.

Makes for some fine discussion by commentators if the TV / radio outlet allows for it. I learn a lot of my cricket history that way.

He deserves to play until he's done. Anderson style....

It’s why we have five days, so we can get four days’ play—or something🙂 Pretty sure there have been red ball matches where players came off after one over or less. I remember an Essex-Kent match way back when: The teams came out twice after a rain delay only to go back in before a ball was bowled.
