It’s not about *still*. I’d say increasingly. As Europe rearms, scales up and develops new military capabilities that make it less and less dependent on the US, America is rendered less able to unilaterally decide on anything in the region.
Most US analysts don’t seem to grasp that.

The way this plays out now is that the war unfortunately continues, mainly with European backing for Ukraine. Peace is achieved a year or more down the road on much better terms for Ukraine. America is never trusted again and becomes irrelevant in the region.

And I never thought about it but indeed the storyline in Quantum of Solace is actually a very realistic one, especially compared to the typically fanciful ones in the other Bond films I watched after that.
