Here's what an SME says, over on the Elon site:

Newsom returning AB 527 without his signature, this bill would have have created a categorical exemption from CEQA for geothermal exploration. Geothermal developers and energy orgs were very enthusiastic about this bill. Does this mean anything for SB 79? It makes me feel a bit uneasy because...

I thought he was just an ignorant blowhard, but it's worse than I could've imagined.

Great bill, I trust you also nudged him on the right direction on SB 79, as well 😉

Insta-blocked by Larry Gross, CADEM regional director for SFV in LA, for gently reminding him that his opinion is overwhelmingly at massive odds with his own party on SB 79. If these are the unsophisticated primitive NIMBYs that Newsom is listening to, he probably has no business running for POTUS.

His image is that of an enforcer of zoning and streamlining laws, let's hope it's not just an elaborate ruse.
October 2, 2025 at 12:58 AM
if anyone's wondering if there's even an inkling of Newsom being receptive in any way to the impotent whining (& they like to spill the tea readily!) of LA's main NIMBY group on SB 79, here's a lil recent update. Btw, call his office 916-445-2841, urge he sign, takes 90 seconds.

Us YIMBYs in LA wanting to replicate this success
October 1, 2025 at 7:58 AM
I'm a little worried but I do follow the LA-based NIMBY groups pretty closely (don't ask how I got access to their mailing lists), all I see is lots of impotent rage, with "nothing good to report", and no signs of Newsome being receptive to their whining (and they'd be the first to say otherwise)

YIMBY is what fights the localigarchy! Credit to @cityengineer.bsky.social for the word.

Yup...bad faith actor making a bad faith argument, as usual. Same person that voted to spend 3 billion city dollars on a new convention center

He should do a signing ceremony, we need a repetition of these vibes

The only other declared person running for LA Mayor is currently a street lighting engineering project manager for the city and honestly at this point I'm pretty sure I'll take this guy over Bass
September 18, 2025 at 7:34 AM
NIMBYs get to this guy? Eh, I doubt it (trying to Be Optimistic)
September 18, 2025 at 4:24 AM
And there it is: today Mayor Bass went on record requesting a veto of SB 79 from Governor Newsom in favor of our Housing Element*.

Do you mean her personal neighborhood or SD 20? Because SB79 would definitely apply in SD20 if passed

This is what they actually look like

I'll be enjoying your misanthropic segregationist NIMBY tears when SB 79 passes this fall 🍂 🍁. You have yourself a blessed day.

Unfortunately my senator is Caroline Menjivar, someone I voted for because she ran on an excellent pro-housing and pro-transit platform come out with a total about-face no vote on SB79u. I've been meaning to call to express my disappointment, will do that and ask her to vote for Lena Gonzalez.
