The SPEED Act passed House Natural Resources today.

It reforms NEPA to, among other things, add new "shot clocks" (2 years for an EIS), ensure agency roles are clearer, and limit the scope of agency review to only issues within their purview.

NEPA reform might finally be happening! 🎉 🎊
What’s in the SPEED Act?
Unpacking Chair Westerman and Rep. Golden’s bipartisan permitting reform bill that proposes significant changes to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). NEPA is a federal environmental law ena...

This will be HUGE for reducing the influence of money in our local politics.

The most destructive number in America isn’t inflation or interest rates.

It’s the housing multiplier, the ratio of home price to full-time income.

When it jumped from 3× to 8×, we didn’t get richer.
We just transferred our kids’ futures to banks and landowners.

This perspective is a near consensus position across the political spectrum in this country.

Moderate democrats, socialists, conservatives, and Nazis agree that urban professional class renters are not deserving of political representation.
These people do not believe that the middle and professional classes have moral standing to do politics in their material self interest.

Left anti YIMBYism starts from the assumption that middle class people do not have moral standing to make policy demands of urban governments and do not have the right to engage in political action to improve their material circumstances.

Genuinely: this is a perfect encapuslation as to how Paul Krugman remains one of the most clear-eyed of his colleagues about events. He just looked at the Journalist Brain-Cooking Devices and Apps and said "that seems like a terrible idea, no thanks" and consequently he never suffered a digital TBI.

That's because all the high-rise high density housing is being built next to freeways, expressways, and El Camino Real... where you spend all your time sitting in traffic or waiting for red lights, seething about more housing.
