Reminder that *every* day is a good day to vote with your dollars.

Every day is a good day to boycott big companies that donate to political causes you don't agree with.

Every day is a good day to donate to your local food bank and other charities.

Today, yes, but *also* any other day.

FYI: these are my neighbors. The "healthy aging" bar is very high here.

Someone asked me the other day if Marin "ran leaner" than Sonoma.

Um, yes. My doc informed me that there's a 'Marin BMI' they use here that's different from the standard BMI. (Both are nonsense but srsly.)
I was cheering friends at the Dipsea trail race and saw a smiling 90-year-old reach the top of Mt. Tam.

I tracked Lloyd Kahn down to get his secrets about aging. He answered all the questions ... then took our @sfchronicle.com team skateboarding.

He’s 90. He’s still skateboarding. Advice on aging from Lloyd Kahn
Our reporter saw a 90-year-old competing in the grueling Dipsea trail race earlier this year, and had questions. This Bay Area super-ager has answers … and took us skateboarding.

PHILLY!
I have an event for YOU.

The Last Minute Market on Sat 12/6!

Some of my favorite local artists will be there with me selling ART!

It's in a big indoor space, nice and warm & super easy to access by transit (by Berks Station).

Also this bar has good espresso martinis. Just saying.

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

One of the reasons i love tolkien is the theme that despair is an enemy

and it makes clear you don’t need to have constant hope, you can get by with grim determination or spite but never despair
You can be as terrified or nonplussed or unperturbed as you like; the sun will still rise tomorrow & the rent will still be due on the 31st. The world has no romantic narratives for its fate except those we invent, because the world does not die. That is our privilege.
I said it elsewhere, but it’s weirdly exhilarating and addictive to be terrified all the time, and the people addicted to it, when they say this, may as well be saying “I can stop at any time, it’s just the world doing this *to* me.”

Meant to spend about 4 hours at the pottery studio...turned into nearly 8.

Halfway through someone else there said "Best Thanksgiving ever."

Not sure that's true for me, but certainly wasn't the worst, that's for sure!

Used a bunch of new glazes, carved a wonky plant pot, picked up ornaments!

Addendum to this excellent post:

You do not have to be good at something to have fun.

Don't hold yourself up to hyperrealistic or professional or your favourite ___ standards.

You're new and learning!
Be YOU, not a copy of someone else.
I'm old.

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.

OMG I'm sorry I'm dying 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Uhh,,, Figure 1 shows you... what exactly? Trying to understand Medical fryrmbial, runctitional features and mum's legs going through concrete.

This whole article is a bit of a disaster. And it's very difficult to find other published work for the author. Strange! 🧪

In case you needed a reminder that the most loathsome people in the world work for DHS.

you do have to do it in a couple of places but this tutorial makes it easy to go uncheck the boxes that otherwise lets Google's AI read all your shit. or move everything over to protonmail but moving everything over is a giant thing I know.
Google has started automatically opting you in to let it read your stuff to train AI. You need to turn this off in SEVERAL places in your settings (not just for Gmail), if you want to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

Everyone stop acting weird and shocked about MTG. She has been systematically distancing herself from the current GOP for months and months. She has a plan reform herself under a new image ON THE RIGHT that’s not part of a sinking ship.

She’s not suddenly changing her tune! SHE’S AN OPPORTUNIST

FWIW it appears that my "half-drunk guy at the end of the bar who just wants to talk to anyone" characterization still holds...
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."
