Working on some new band merch for an upcoming house show.

(logos will be white and red when they're done) #pottery
low angle of a large cup in black clay, still leathery, with a short foot ring, rounded wide base, and then sharp angle in to a narrower lip. the teacup gorilla word mark is hand carved one word in slab serif caps above the other in a cursive script. The teacup e is lowercase and rotated slightly forward. The cup handle is a small ring sticking out the side. similar cup/logo design, but set snugly into a large saucer with sloped sides and a horizontal rim

One of the porcelain pieces that came out recently - a vase shape I've had in mind for a while. Might revisit this at some different sizes.
A shiny white vase with splatters of blues and greens that seem to drip from the base upward. It has a narrow foot, and slightly rounded walls out to a wider shoulder – then cuts in sharply, out again to the same width, and back in – almost like a collapsible accordion at the top

Working on some nerd dice trays for nerd friends who play nerd games with me.

Here's two of three, thrown then altered. One is drying ready to be fired, the others still need trimming - which I do using an overturned bucket as a chuck (or chum if yer fancy).
round tray with straight walls up a couple inches, then a rim that spays out horizontal, dipping in places to provide a dice rest - and ending in curled over torn edges like ripped paper or live edge wood - in the middle i carved do trans be crime in a playful handdrawn slab serif. white clay, bone dry. very similar white clay round tray with straight edges and wide torn lip. this one is still slightly wet, and has nothing written in it.

All the orders have been packed and shipped (not all of them so precarious), and I think by now several have arrived – hopefully intact?!

An inward-sloping mug on a tall inset foot and wide base, made of black clay with a texture carved around and words inlayed with hand-written white text – then a white/brown organic glazed rim and inside that has specks of blue. The visible text continuing around the mug says change your… The same mug turned to finish the phrase, …your gender. A mug in the same style, but this one has little white arrows added to the texture, and says Support… Turned to finish the phrase, …trans kids. The foot ring is more visible here with a small white stamp of my initial.

v60-style inverted cone with a slab base sitting on top of a ceramic mug. The pour-over is made from a brown clay, with frosty white glaze that shows the clay at edges – and where a texture has been carved into the walls of the piece. The mug is black clay using the same white glaze around the rim, and the same carved texture at the base. The same pour-over from above, showing the inside of the conic filter holder, which also has some texture. The hole at the base of the cone is about .75 inches diameter. The bottom of the pour-over has an outer ledge and inset ring to help keep the entire thing in place, and the coffee flowing into the mug. There's a small stamp of my initial on the outside ring.

This one is black clay, with a glossy moss-green finish and dripping white rim. There's a bit of my usual carved texturing around the middle. Stacked mugs with phrases like Do trans, be crimes and the listed colors of the trans flag - white hand-drawn text on black clay Small round planters with a speckled clay left mostly bare, but textured with grooves, and brightly glazed rims in different blues, cyans, reds, and greens. Each has a single drainage hole, and a stamp of my first initial at the base

felt sad, so i trimmed some gaiwan lids and glazed a whole set of espresso/sake cups.

maybe I should be sad again tomorrow and throw some things. Here's some bowls that came out recently for my brothers:
A tall stack of 6 ramen bowls on the left, each with black clay exposed on the outside, a deep angular foot ring and carved texture - then an organic white/brown glaze with blue specks around the notched rim and inside. the stack is aesthetically off-kilter, and the top bowl has chopsticks laid across two notches in the rim. on the right, just two bowls of the same design, stacked a you can see more of the glazed inside.

Feeling pretty good about my first big pottery barter, enough to cover several haircuts and a full color with my favorite hairdresser.

Including some butter bells, which I really enjoyed making. I'm excited to finess this design some more. I have ideas, so I hope people like butter.
from the outside, a mid-size lidded jar with slightly inward-angled walls and a flat disc lid, in dark clay and light shino organic-beige glaze. the top of the lid is unglazed. the lid removed reveals a butter bell inside, an inverted cup that nests inside the jar, with the bottom of the lid as the bottom of the cup. the insides of both the bell and jar are glazed white.

I haven't been posting pots this week. Guess I should fix that. Here's how the Sake set came out. One of my first experiments with the New Mexico IronStone.
Black clay sake set, a small mostly bare bottle with rounded shoulders into a neck and then out to a cup-like lip, glazed with an organic white that breaks brown at the rim. Beside it, four small cups stacked in pairs, a narrow foot holds a small bowl shape - again bare with an icy white/brown rim and inside The bottle on its side, opening out to show us the glazed inner lip. we're closer to the cups as well, stacked foot-to-foot, with my m stamp glazed white in relief - and aligned to create a sense of mirroring

I can say "I spent some time in the studio for my birthday" but the truth is I spend some time in there most days now.

Was planning to practice that sphere a few times, but someone had a Stanley, so I took measurements and gave it a shot. (+14% for shrinkage)
A tall cup with a narrow base to fit 30oz into your cup holder I guess, but even larger and made of black clay still wet off the wheel - and next to it a sphere vase maybe 3 times as wide and half the height, not a perfect round, but not bad either, with just a bit of a rim at the opening. from above, a dark circle the hole of the cup, then concentric shadow on black clay circles for the sphere opening from above. Just circles stacked on a wooden board.

I made this strange turnip-like vase a couple months back, but never got around to photos. Maybe I'll revisit the concept with a bit more finesse at some point.

At another spot on the alignment chart, some small planters in progress - with deceivingly pastel unfired glaze over not-yet-speckled clay
The bottom of the vase is a shiny black orb on a shallow pedestal, with uneven grooves carved around the surface. up top, slabs of torn clay explode out in satin-semi-gloss red and yellow leaves or pedals that almost form a flower, or almost the flared neck of a vase. There is nothing that makes the two parts cohere in a single piece. nine uniform small round-bottom planters with dry unfired glazes around each rim in pastel shades of red and blue and green and purple

Two nearly identical tall ceramic cylinders with carved grooves circling the form, a speckled clay, and a white glaze applied to the top half at an angle. the neck cuts in sharply, then flares out again with crisp angles and straight lines to a wide flat rim, evoking old tin milk cans
