We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the courage it fears, not the appeasement it feeds on.

Daaaaaang.
He opens up his speech with a Debs quote. He talks about putting power in working class hands, and uses examples of the current working class: delivery workers, kitchen workers, nurses.

This honestly feels like a qualitative political shift, unquestionably for the better.

Weird thing where people say “no one could have predicted it” when really what they mean is their political commitments and orientation were such that they ignored everyone who was predicting it

Sorry but “no one could have“ and you having your head stuck up your ass are two different situations

Confession time: when we run a profile of a group that is doing several totally different interesting things at once, it's SO hard to write a headline. So we didn't get the "including group homes proactively in a subdivision part" in. But now you know. shelterforce.org/2025/09/17/m...

Good resource.
I started working on this worksheet on Sunday—with a still untreated broken ankle—because the conversations I had been having with my fellow Chicago organizers, and with other organizers around the country, made it clear that a structured approach would be helpful to some of our people.
Mapping Community Defense and Care in Our Neighborhoods
This worksheet can help us prepare for Trump's military interventions at the neighborhood level.

THERE ARE NO SHELTERS IN DC FOR PEOPLE TO GO TO. 900 ppl sleep outside each night. There are 40 open shelter beds. Ppl will be arrested for being unable to afford rent.

Every reporter needs to ask Trump and his cronies where he wants people to go.

Maybe his new ballroom?

More ambulances leaving Alligator Alcatraz. One at 10:30 am today and the other at 6:30 pm. Another at 11:57 pm last night, 6:10 pm on July 31st. Florida Department of Emergency Management, which operates the site, refuses to confirm hospitalizations but they are happening.

I'm not a Christian, but I do admire those few who take the compassion and justice messages of that faith seriously, even when it's not easy. I knew on first listen I wanted to share this poem (and it was worth the work it took to track the poet down for permission). shelterforce.org/2025/07/16/p...
Poem: Hospitality

Putting together these remarks for a @groundedsolutions.bsky.social panel on housing messaging in an age of disinfo made a few things click for me—and based on the enthusiastic response I got, many others agreed. Perhaps it will be useful to you too! shelterforce.org/2025/07/14/h...
Housing Communicators: Don't Water Down Your Values to Appeal to Opponents
While many organizations try to adapt their messaging to reach a wider audience—which can be done—the research can help avoid some pitfalls along the way.

Read Marisa today for the stories that you’ll see in the NYT tomorrow. Bonus: she won’t grant stupid white nationalists anonymity to settle witless fights with mayoral candidates.
It’s rich seeing major outlets who originally declined to write about FEMA’s shitty response in Texas just now publishing stories and without crediting my original reporting.

It’s fucked up the @nytimes.com is okay with using anonymous race science accounts to smear Zohran with hacked bullshit, but isn’t okay with Jamelle Bouie criticizing them for it.

That’s, like, four different levels of racist simultaneously.

Any housers who celebrate this bill are showing that they only care about their piece of the LIHTC industrial complex and not the people they purport to serve. My latest editorial for @shelterforce.bsky.social.
Trump's Big Ugly Bill Is a Loss for Housing
The tax bill includes big increases in housing funding. But its other provisions are so harmful that the affordable housing field should not be celebrating.

Trump’s Tax Scam now heads back to the House, where Republicans can only afford to lose 3 votes. The bill barely squeaked by with a single-vote margin the first time, and it’s only gotten more divisive since.

Anyone who tells you this is a done deal doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about.
Trump’s Big Ugly Bill has passed the Senate. We can still defeat it in the House.

hey I am posting this because I didn't know it, and so others might not either: but the BBB has NOT PASSED YET-- it's passed the senate & now it must pass the house.

It's time to call reps RIGHT NOW. Johnson is going to push the vote ASAP before backlash can form so the calls need to start NOW.

@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social please focus on Congress (where a bill that is devastating for your constituents is being debated) and not on tearing down the winner of the Dem nomination for NYC mayor

I know what I’m scared of, and it’s not a socialist.
