Grist is noncreature by default, and is a creature only if we DO apply its static ability. But 614.12 only permits that if the effect "... would apply to it once it’s on the battlefield", which Grist's won't. So 614.12 should predict a noncreature Grist, which Dress Down won't apply to.

I think Impending actually supports Grist surviving?

Dress Down winning v. Impending is because the 3rd ability is contingent on the time counter, which 614.12 lookahead can't predict (e.g. Arixmethes vs. Blood Moon), so "not a creature" can't be applied. By default, then, it's a creature.

That's probably the right response, to be honest. 😂 "According to the 614.12 lookahead..." is the sort of phrase that sends people running, it's just some of us run TOWARDS the fire because we can't help ourselves.

MTGO handled it as "one controlled turn, one extra turn". If that was intended by the rules team, my best guess is 722.1a being interpreted rather aggressively... But it feels more likely unintended, like the second extra turn is being ignored by the engine for some reason.

Also I love that while, yes, she caved to pressure and bought a bed... She said with her WHOLE CHEST that the only reason she did was because her hookups kept being weirded out otherwise. Queen. 💜

You're 1000% correct, she's a hero, and also HOLY SHIT this is WILD. 😂

And like... I see the vision! I've slept in strange places and been perfectly content! Absolutely yes on dog beds, hammocks, even just blankets piled on the floor. But I cannot imagine treating a bed in your home as OPTIONAL!!

Whoops. Meant to say "that text was never* added"
November 21, 2025 at 8:58 PM
Obviously the source of these delayed triggers should be Cosmic Intervention (and the controller, whomever controlled that spell) but that text was added.

Also, a minor related refactor! 109.4b, 109.5, 113.7, 113.8, 405.4, 603.3a all direct readers to "603.7d-f", but (g) should be included.

Gotcha! Thanks for the quick response on that.

It's been depressing seeing how many people are all aboard with Arc Raiders despite the AI voices, just because the gameplay and aesthetics are solid.

Even worse: the technology EXISTS to respec, but it's paywalled.

614.12 is a complicated rule so it's possible I'm misinterpreting, but it seems like Arena has this interaction wrong and Grist should still enter with loyalty counters.

But Grist is noncreature by default; it's only a creature if we DO apply its ability. That ability won't apply on the battlefield, and 614.12 doesn't consider an object's characteristics BEFORE the zone change (e.g. a creature that "enters tapped" still will if Zombified vs. Yixlid Jailer).

That feels... Fairly out-of-line with 614.12's intent AND text, though? With the devotion case, your devotion to a color is information about the PLAYER; since the lookahead only considers the CREATURE (and effects that affect it), it won't ""update"" your devotion with the creature's pips.

There's a post circling that argues this is similar to how devotion interacts poorly with 614.12's lookahead - specifically, "while we're considering what Grist 'would look like on the battlefield', it ISN'T on the battlefield, which means its static ability applies, so Dress Down applies."
