1. Ensure ongoing availability & access to #ResearchWorthUsing?
2. Support high-quality use of research evidence through routines that integrate evidence into decision-making? #URE #EBDM

True of extracurricular activities more broadly as well-- a marker of "accomplishment" that isn't just about academics, but typically requires substantial time and/or financial resources from families to support it.
The youth sports industrial complex is fueled by the promise that, if kids push themselves to reach their full athletic potential, they could get a ticket to a life inaccessible otherwise.

It's a promise that's appealing in a highly unequal society, but it sets up a whole lot of kids to fail.

In the past 3 weeks, how many hours did state and district leaders spend frantically re-arranging budgets, contracts, and staffing plans to address the budget uncertainty? Did that improve student outcomes?

What a ridiculous waste of scarce resources.

The administration & their useful idiots say editors & peer reviewers are gatekeepers with an agenda. As @jeremyberg.bsky.social’s shows, the only agenda is scientific integrity.

There is no substitute for a fair, evidence-driven, informed approach to editorial decisions.

I read and re-read the paper and talked to some on the experienced editorial staff.

My conclusion was that there were not sufficient reasons to retract the paper. The evidence was much weaker than was needed to fully support the claims. but this was true to some degree for many papers.

Heard from #AHRQ that the entire grants staff has been let go! They are unable to issue funds for grants already funded, let alone fund new grants. This is outrageous and will make Americans poorer and sicker. Why? A brief thread about just some recent AHRQ-funded research: #MedSky #HealthPolicy

I’m no political strategist but if Trump wants to distract us from the Epstein Files, he could try fully funding NIH, EPA, NASA, NOAA, NSF, USDA, USGS, etc. We’d be so shocked that we won’t stop talking about it for months.

There’s not enough reporting, IMHO, on the targeted attacks on research and science across multiple fields: education, health, medicine, environment. Presumably, if they are killing the reporting and accountability mechanisms, they know what they’re doing will have negative consequences.
Breaking News: The EPA said that it would eliminate its scientific research arm and begin firing hundreds of chemists, biologists, toxicologists and other scientists, after denying for months that it intended to do so.
E.P.A. Says It Will Eliminate Its Scientific Research Arm
The decision comes after a Supreme Court ruling allowing the Trump administration to slash the federal work force and dismantle agencies.

In past week, early signs from Congress are: "we don't want to destroy NSF".

However, STEM education and training—which are vital to NSF's mission—remain particularly targeted.

Absolutely essential time to build stronger infrastructures across states for education data, evidence use, research production, and brokerage/networking across all of them. Would love to see this span K-16+, and potentially also out-of-school supports and learning opportunities.
As we watch the dismantling of the U.S. Dept of Ed, which will be felt somewhat in funding reductions to states and local districts, it will be felt even more so in a) oversight and enforcement of rights for vulnerable populations and b) access to high quality data & research.

NEW: In an unprecedented move, the NIH will soon disinvite dozens of scientists about to take positions on advisory councils that make final decisions on grant funding.

NIH staff were told to select others aligned with the Trump administration and told to expect placements by political appointees.
Exclusive: NIH to dismiss dozens of grant reviewers to align with Trump priorities
The move would undo years of work, leaving advisory councils understaffed, and without the full expertise needed for reviews.
