At 7 months, infants who were classified as securely attached at 12 months showed larger attention-related brain responses to their mother's happy than angry faces, while no difference was found in insecurely attached infants.

Parity had an impact on motivation to infant emotions, with mothers showing greater approach toward positive infant faces and greater withdrawal from negative faces. Testosterone levels were inversely associated with the amount of time infant faces were viewed.

The results suggested that especially expecting men and fathers currently taking care of an infant showed heightened affective empathy towards children’s, while empathy was lower in more experienced fathers.
