The Space Couple is snubbed of merchandise again (are we really surprised at this point?) for the Disneyland 70th Happy Meal toy giveaway, so I took matters into my own hands. In the actual promotion, the Hatbox Ghost and Sleeping Beauty Castle are the only park-specific characters represented, not counting any “Mickey” or feature characters with attractions

As someone who is a fan of characters Disney “accidentally” introduced me to and continues to ignore (see alt), I heavily related to Elio’s themes of loneliness and the desire to belong. So glad I watched it when I did!
Tomorrowland Space Couple, rebooted as Michael and Mary for the “Throwback Nite” event after a 60+ year absence, and with lore and fine-tuned personalities not given to their predecessors. Despite their prominent ties to the park’s history and opening day, they and other “Throwback Nite” elements were ignored entirely in favor of pushing “Fantastic Four” in Tomorrowland instead to promote that film. Historically, the Space Couple has gotten barely any merchandise or acknowledgment compared to other original parks characters like Figment or Hatbox Ghost; because of the created scarcity by Disney, barley anyone knows what it is unless you went to “Throwback Nite” (or subsequent “Sweethearts’ Nite” events) or met the originals in the 1950s “Pepper Ann” a 1997 TV series created by Sue Rose for ABC; it became available to stream on Disney+ in 2021. Unlike the Space Couple, a sizable amount of merchandise was made when the show was released but is difficult to find nowadays. The series characters also make small cameos on “House of Mouse,”Amphibia,” and “Chibiverse”

Fake Disney+ account named, “he took my Space Couple away,” with a profile picture of Reed from Marvel’s “The Fantastic 4: First Steps.” In May, Disneyland started its 70th anniversary celebration; two years prior, their “Throwback Nite” event reintroduced many vintage opening-day characters to a new generation of Guests, including the Tomorrowland Space Couple, who were given extensive, original lore and charming personalities not present in their original 1955-1965 incarnations. A week after the actual 70th anniversary of the park, the Fantastic Four received merchandise displays, a meet & greet, and a projection show in Tomorrowland, while the Space Couple and other “Throwback Nite” elements were not even acknowledged in any form. As the Space Couple is OPs favorite character, he is greatly disappointed and bitter that Disney listened to people who wanted a retrofuturistic “Fantastic Four” Tomorrowland instead of utilizing the Space Couple, as OP saw tons of promise in them upon meeting them at “Sweethearts’ Nite”
