Forager, bean enthusiast, tax nerd. On occupied Piscataway land.
I enjoy our family meals. Our toddler happily eats several vegetables and can be easily swayed to eat a somewhat wider variety in exchange for more noodles, etc.

Made the mistake of reading some of the news, trying to see whether the shutdown might finally be ending.

I sometimes see headlines, and that’s about the limit for my mental health. Now I have the pit of anxiety again, hopefully passes in its normal few days 🙃😵‍💫

It’s been a mast year for possibly every nut tree in the neighborhood. And they all went in succession! Beech, then chestnuts, black walnuts, hickory, oak. Even my baby buckeye has a few conkers hanging from it.

Turns out it’s pretty much all about calories in. Calories out is, over time, a total wash. 🧵

Y’all, I’ve had a hunch for 2.5 years that I have iron issues. When I was pregnant, my heart rate would randomly almost double, then fatigue that to this day persists. And all sorts of other issues, like #restlessLegSyndrome

I know this sentiment is well shared, but every once in a while I think about how beautifully powerful and inspiring these paintings are.

There are city council meetings I showed up to because I learned they needed more support from someone at a protest. There are organizations I didn't know existed until I learned about them at a protest. And it's just healing to feel how powerful we can be in large numbers.

There’s so much bad stuff happening! Really angering stuff!

But getting yourself angry, by itself, doesn’t accomplish much. Does it motivate you, or just stress you out for a while?

When I get angry, the only motivation I have is to vent to someone or maaaaybe lift weights.

So much chaos caused by the new administration! That’s exactly their goal. Keeping you focused on it. What voices are you not listening to as you doomscroll?

Whatever you do daily/regularly shapes you greatly. Make those activities good ones. A daily walk, eating fruit for your morning snack, tending to a community project.

Making these choices into habits (so they don’t feel like chores) will set you up for the most happiness.

Be cautious about all the hype you’re seeing and will keep seeing about things that don’t have tangible impacts. Like the stupid N*zi salutes on stage.

Those were HUGELY successful distractions from all the Executive Orders that got signed!

Per the parting Surgeon General: “Choose community.” The most practical and rewarding way to start is to get to know your immediate neighbors better. No matter how different they are from you!!

I have the FB app for using my Buy Nothing group, and for the first time ever today saw this ad for putting a TikTok link on my profile. Right after the SCOTUS decision! Weird??!!

There’s a cereal I love that I’ve eaten nearly every morning for maybe over a year now. LoveCrunch PB and dark chocolate. Comes in smallish bags. But they must have changed an ingredient supplier recently?

I always want to hear about the weird shit someone does! ❤️ Weird shit is the antithesis of capitalism.

As long as it isn’t harming anyone or any animal, please prioritize your own weird shit!
As cost of living increases, as wages stagnate, as housing becomes more precarious, it becomes harder and harder to be able to spend all your time doing weird shit.

Whole ecosystems reliant on people doing weird shit, dry up as their habitat is burned for a billionaire's profit.

6. Food deserts didn’t materialize for no reason. Something happened. That something was a specific federal policy change in the 1980s — the Federal Trade Commission stopped enforcing the Robinson-Patman Act, a key antitrust law designed to ensure robust competition in retailing.

The Ocean Cleanup reports catching fish, squid, sharks and turtles, as well as marine life too small to count. On the high end, they report potential total animal catches of over 2,000,000 animals per day.

Related to the quote below: People who like authoritarianism enjoy the idea of being able to buy respect.
People in lefty organizing spaces need to get familiar with Social Dominance Orientation as something that is not isolated to the right, and kick people high in it out the door as fast as possible.
