Wrote a book about G.K. Chesterton and literary modernism. Now working in uni admin, but still doing research - see pinned thread for info on my current project, 'Inscribing Pandemonium'. Also posting about music, culture, politics, random nonsense.
Titanic Hotel, I think? We stayed there last month - preposterously huge bedrooms! Rain-lashed, dejected Everton fans in the bar!

Really enjoyed putting it together with the lad - not too tricky once the burger was successfully navigated!

Hey, you were on the table next to mine!

Yikes... Had a similar thing with getting into Leeds arena to see Dylan the other week - enormous queues for security meant we missed the first song. Considering the ticket prices that was about a tenner's worth of the gig!

No probs, he went on around 8pm and played through to 10pm

A friend of mine saw him play a similar show in a little town in North Carolina a few years ago, when he was travelling the States. It was a complete fluke that my pal passed through the town that day - highlight of his trip.

Me too!

Yes, o yes

Yeah losing the Crescent would be a disaster. Couple of the local Labour councillors are regular gig goers, so I'm quietly hopeful it'll survive the threat...

He played that, and rather unnervingly stared directly at me while singing it
November 25, 2025 at 7:41 PM
He did!

Yeah, saw Simon Joyner there earlier in the year too - it's defo turning into a good spot

Don't recall it from last night... he might've if someone had given a yell though

The York music scene has changed enormously in that time, in very large part thanks to the tireless work of Joe Coates, the local promoter who put this show on - an absolute legend, and one of the loveliest people you could ever meet.

Yeah, really enjoyed it. Certainly intimate!

He was very good - I'm sure you'll enjoy it! He was liberal with the ad hoc requests, so worth coming forearmed with favourites to shout for.

This popped up on a playlist the other day when I'd wandered into a different room. Overheard laptop-adjacent 7-year-old: "oh my goodness", soon followed by shouting of unimpressed wife.

Barrett's heritance

Basically agree with this, though I'd say there are occasional flashes of the 62-66 genius in his later stuff (e.g. 'Hurricane'). And fully on board with the The Band bashing (the fact they're called The Band should also form part of the prosecution). Also appreciated the billy woods comparison.
