De Profundis is one of the most interesting of the earlier free verse poems from Trakl’s first collection Gedichte of 1913.

Very wise. I’ve had covid and it was minor. Hence my decision. I’ve found that not working anymore I no longer get sore throats or hacking coughs. I’m much healthier not being exposed to all those office bugs.

Do you have a specific reason for the jab? I had the first two but none since then. I had a minimal reaction for the first two so that’s been my experience.

Given the alliteration in the original poem I was seeking a similar effect in my translation.

Interesting point. My Otto Muller Verlag two-volume edition mentions that variant reading together with “sammet” instead of “sammelt”. The sense of mortal or fatal would still be present. I chose “deadly” to continue the musicality of the d sounds in words such as woods, resound, golden and darkly.

Macbeth is my favourite Shakespeare play, largely because of its linguistic density.
I did once memorise all of act one just for the hell of it.
One of my stories is called “Signifying Nothing” and one of my lecturers wrote a book called “Night’s Black Agents”.
