It'll be so great when I have to explain this to my child.
Never forget: At breakneck speed we are leaving the stable Holocene climate in which human society developed and thrived. Weather extremes are outside historical experience. Sea-level rise is accelerating. Dangerous tipping points are ahead.

I have directly argued with sustainability reporting and due diligence in at least 2-3 EU-funded projects in order to strengthen companies / sustainability. It's not funny to get money for it while it is being weakened. But this is actually common in transformation projects. It's hard to stay sane.
🗳️ @europarl.europa.eu has voted to 'simplify' corporate sustainability reporting and due diligence.

Sounds technical but it's bad news.

Diluting rules designed to keep big business honest about its impact on people and planet will make it harder for consumers to invest their money sustainably.

For 'simplification' read 'deregulation' + for 'deregulation' read removing all the rules that protect us from polluted air, water, soil, + just relying on those fine chaps at the corporations to do the right thing out of the goodness of their hearts

Linear height limits don’t just incentivize low ceilings, they also discourage lower-carbon construction like this. Squeezed between cutting 25% of a building’s floors or going to post-tensioned concrete, the choice is obvious even when max profit isn’t the goal.

Regulate by floor count, instead.
Concrete is not T.I.N.A. (there is no alternative)

I asked 20 future architects, who lives in a climate-friendly / insulated building? The answer was silence.

Then we tried plant and earth based external and internal insulation systems that even novices can use right away.

Look at vivihouse.cc for what is possible.

Shall we start to talk about innovation lag in the construction sector or just abstract about energy sources and ofsets?
Coal, oil, gas, and cement all contributed more or less equally to the rise in emissions in 2025:

Truly remarkable: Poland used to be a climate laggard.

Today, wind and solar are increasingly replacing coal in the Polish electricity mix with almost 30% of all electricity generated to date this year from wind and solar.

In 2000 coal provided 95% of Polish electricity.

Today it is at 51%.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are the US turning the rapidly renewable material hemp (fiber, shiv,...) needed for the resource transition into a strange product for their existing addictive tendencies, and now there's the Trump thing on top of that?
Idiocy for Trump and the Republican Congress to outlaw the hemp industry -- I have to think this is going to cause considerable backlash within their base, especially if they think that they are locking up the bro vote. 1/
"The ban goes into effect 365 days after the spending bill is signed by President Donald Trump.

Trump supports the #hemp restrictions, an unnamed White House official told NBC News earlier in the week."

Other than that, great stuff
Exclusive by me: A quarter of the world’s population lives within three miles (5km) of operational fossil fuel projects, threatening the health of more than 2bn people as well as critical ecosystems, according to first-of-its-kind research.

This sounds reasonable but is 100% wrong. Whether you or agree or disagree with a study is completely immaterial. What matters is whether the study was conducted properly and generates valid results. And it's impolitic to say but it's true: you have to have some level of expertise to judge that.

The latest iteration is the Haussman renovation of Paris, 1853 - 1870 (-> 1927) now considered 'old' archiecture, but was modern mass housing of its time.

Will the YIMBY ‘Holy Grail’ Deliver an LA Building Boom?
Supporters of the California zoning reform bill SB 79 say it will unleash a wave of multistory apartment buildings. In low-rise-loving Los Angeles, that could be a tall order.
