You do what you can to do good in this world. There's endless rules about professionalism & public-facing appearances. But, it drives you mad after years of repeated cycles and trying to play by the rules with constantly bloody nails, clawing your way up to be anything but a pawn.

And then there was the business that talked me into a long-commute, low pay role, changed my shift after signing the contract, & encouraged me to sign a lease & move closer a week before revealing they lied, were outsourcing the whole department, & just hired me just to get through the layoff.

Another time, another business canceled an earned promotion to become a trainer to make new moms coming back from maternity leave do the work for free if they didn't want to get bumped to a crappy shift and miss caring for their babies.

Another time, I worked for a startup, and I was told that I was greedy for taking gigs an investor of the startup wanted on their resume on because "I had other income doing Lyft." This person lived 100% off an inheritance with a new car, luxury apartment, and dumped 5-6 figures into this startup.

And even worse are the ones who excuse and deny it of it out of ignorance or convenience.
I'll never forget the sickening response to one case "It was really gross...but not illegal."
