I've been mulling over this point for a while and decided, with No Kings ][ looming, it was worth writing up. www.pbump.net/o/sincerity-...
Sincerity is not the problem
As is inevitably the case after an election — and is especially the case after an election with an unexpected result — allies of the losing presidential candidate in 2024 looked for people to blame. O...

I agree! So assert your rights as a citizen of a functioning democracy. Engage. Participate. Speak up. Vote. Donate. Volunteer.
And stop huddling behind a keyboard and mythologizing a failed real estate developer as Mussolini, Hitler, or Pol Pot. People who believe in democracy are the majority.
For now. But the direction and speed of where we’re headed isn’t good.

An article about pizza from a time when it was still exotic. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...
Pizza
“In a world of ready-made food, packaged to be tossed together by amateurs, pizza stands apart—one dish, at least, which calls for time and skill.”

It’s like watching a black hole form.
The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.

🤔I want to go to the house of the person that invented laptop charging bricks. I want to experience the unique and unparalleled tightness of the wall sockets in their house.

Because the rest of us live in a world of loose sockets where those charging bricks always fall out.

What the jokes *are* is a form of mass outcasting directed at an elite who's gunning to be the next leader of the MAGA movement. They land because, like any good joke, they tap into a deep truth--Vance's ability to be Puritanical and deeply creepy at the same time.
Saw some folks describing the couch-f*cking jokes as vigilantism. That's not quite right--first because vigilantism in the U.S. is almost always directed at marginalized groups and second because the jokes aren't enforcing a particular social or moral code.

Contrary to ghouls, I still think the timing winds up being a big advantage for them. People's attention spans have changed, the way we process celebrity and fame and our leaders has changed, and politics has changed. Getting some fresh blood in the last four months of a race in 2024 is... good.
There is a pro wrestling Royal Rumble Surprise Entrant element to this that Dems are underplaying. People forget that McCain shot up in the polls because he picked a popular female governor who wasn't 1 million years old. It was only later revealed she was one of the dumbest people alive.
I voted for Biden/Harris in 2020 assuming that meant I was voting for Harris/? in 2024. Another part of that to consider is it means Dems could have the exciting reveal of who Harris picks to join the ticket, as a way to help exorcise the bad vibes.
