I've been anticipating at least three books this year that I expect before even reading will be contenders for my book of the year. But the first book I've actually *read* and marked as a candidate for that honor is a debut, Benjamin Liar's 2024 novel THE FAILURES, first book of The Wanderlands.

Luna is my favorite in real life. Luna is surprised to hear me name Shiki, from Spirits of Vengeance by Rob Hayes, because Shiki is not a cat, although has catlike aspects.

Night of the Demon from 1957, but I would have seen it around age 10-11. Final scene of a train morphing into a demon scared the crap out of me.
