People do not typically get a cardiac MRI to check for clotting or blood vessels. It’s often used as a comprehensive view of the heart’s structure, blood flow, or tissue damage, or when tests are inconclusive.

For clots or blockages CT angiography, or ultrasounds are usually the first choice.
