We are a 501c3 nonprofit farm animal sanctuary located in Charlotte, VT. We provide a healthy, happy, permanent home to 100+ rescued or otherwise homeless animals. https://linktr.ee/merrymacfarm
Honey came to us two years ago in an advanced state of starvation and neglect, so she is followed closely by our vets. Her regular diet is a wet mash of Triple Crown Balancer Cubes and beet pulp.

If you don't know Honey and Romeo's story, here's a link to a local news story when they joined us in 2023. They were on the brink of death and fought hard to regain a happy life with us again. www.wcax.com/2023/08/02/m...
Merrymac Farm Sanctuary rehabilitating two starving horses
Two Addison County horses seized by law enforcement last month for living in unsafe situations are now recuperating at an animal sanctuary in Charlotte.

Honey has survived starvation and a long, hard life as a trail horse and probably never had proper care to her teeth, which is vital for a horse to live a long healthy life. Her spirit is good, she loves her boyfriend Romeo, who is beginning to look better and we need them to carry on together. 💕

Everyone knows that having a vet come over the holidays requires EMERGENCY calls so if you feel inclined to help with any of these costs, we will always encourage donations to be made.

We all know it's hard to eat if your mouth hurts. Today will be another day of vet visits most likely. She's on some big-time antibiotics and pain meds and we will continue to hope that she could turn a corner to start eating.

Dr. Emma was out yesterday again further looking into a potential abscess that might be brewing in that region. She continued to get some preventative treatment for colic because she's still not really eating and we don't want her to get backed up.

Only if she signs a non-interference contract.

Did... did one of our turkeys write this?

10. They are just plain fun to hang out with. It is endlessly delightful watching them interact with each other, the other residents, and the environment. If you'd like to buy a bag of feed for our wonderful turkeys you can do that here: donorbox.org/mmfs-turkey

9. Their regal walk. They have an elegant stride like little kings and queens strutting around. 👑

8. Their language. Most people know turkeys “gobble” but really they make an incredible range of sounds to communicate, ranging from happy purrs to loud cackles and an incredible variety in between! bsky.app/profile/merr...
Most people know about the turkey “gobble”, but they actually make a wide range of sweet and interesting vocalizations! Here’s our Frankie girl having a little chat.

7. Their intelligence. Many people dismiss turkeys as "dumb", but maybe they just haven't have the pleasure of observing them. Turkeys show many intelligent behaviors such as forming social bonds, using a complex language to communicate, problem-solving, long term memory, and more!

6. Their interesting anatomy. Most people don't look closely at turkeys but their heads are very cool and unusual compared to many birds. The bit that dangles from the beak is called a snood, the flap that extends from the chin is a wattle, and the little wrinkly bumps throughout are caruncles.

5. Their distinct personalities. All of our turkeys have unique characters. Some are docile and social, others are sassy and opinionated. One turkey, Jerry, loves the ducks and spends all of his time with them! More about them here: www.merrymacfarmsanctuary.org/meet-the-birds

4. Their cool dinosaur feet! They look like something from Jurassic Park but they need those strong feet and nails to scratch at the soil to create dust baths and find bugs, seeds, plants, and other snacks.
