The worst is the manga ones because they basically post 75 percent of the book without adding anything but their own narration. It's a massive abuse of fair use and a huge waste of people's time.

Definitely moreso. I just think he's a bad match for Pynchon material. He doesn't do the more whimsical side very well.

Damn fun might be overselling it. Could probably edit the film down a tight 90 minutes and it might be fun at that point.

It's a very cute movie.

Like I would say this is a film that was more interested in the way the rug rolls perfectly over the trap door after it closes.

Yeah like I said, I thought the film was really about the fetish of filming people moving in an orchestrated manner through spaces. The whole scene where Del Toro is evacuating his residence is a very good set piece. But it's not REAAALLLY about immigration/ICE etc.

It almost felt like a movie the Coen Brothers would make, but not executed with the same panache.

It's probably difficult to get funding and big stars if you do. In some ways, there's something very old hollywood about it--though possibly even more vapid. There are bits of I liked: Sean Penn's walk, the final chase scene, Benecio Del Toro--the scene where they decide to kill Penn's character

I haven't but that's why I was interested in checking it out. But it really lacked in the weirdness of Pynchon.

You're probably right in that the people who like it, like it as some kind of revolutionary thing, but are too self-serious to understand how they are being made fun of. And then there's maybe also an aspect of "Emperor's New Clothes" with regards to PTA's recent films mixed in.

Really? Do they not get that the film mocks them as unserious ineffectual clowns who will snitch on each other the moment anything gets tough?
