This is why it's important to have Arts/Humanities courses AND STEM courses. It all fits together, they compliment each other.

There's no such thing as useless education.
Adding alt text to this because this is fucking amazing and everyone deserves to read it.

On your deathbed, you will probably not be thinking, "at least I totally owned those trolls on social media," and if you are it's unlikely there will be anyone there to hold your hand as you go
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Rachel Reeves says she’s ending “Motability tax breaks”.
Sounds like she’s cracking down on luxury cars, right?

That’s not what’s happening.

These changes raise costs for all disabled people on the scheme, including those with the cheapest cars.

Here’s how. 👇🧵

I want poetry to be as accessible as possible, and I don't believe there should be a financial barrier to art, so I'm offering three pieces for free, forever

1. The Vow, on love
2. Eulogy, on loss
3. My collaboration with Simba, who work with families going through miscarriage or baby loss

A cycling influencer nominated for a list of top 100 women cyclists said she has declined the honour due to the decision not to include trans women.

Claire Sharpe, a cycling coach from Bristol, said: "If they don't want to ride with all women, then it's not the kind of ride I want to be part of" 👏🏻

Over 50,000 cis women have signed the @nionwomen.bsky.social open letter rejecting the narrative that trans women are a danger to women.

The real threat to women has never been trans women. The real threat to women is male violence.

As it's World Menopause Day tomorrow, check out these resources for LGBTQIA+ people. So much of the menopause information out there is cisgendered-focused so it's great to find a place that acknowledges this and offers support to all people www.queermenopause.com/resources-1

I made an infographic map. Oxford's Congestion Charge scheme (from 29th Oct) is not like most congestion charge schemes, because you can get to most streets in the city without being charged. My impression is a lot of people haven't realised this.

Can any fellow CILIP members provide information on Resolution 2 for the AGM vote? There is no information about why this is proposed or what it means, and I don't want to vote without knowing what I'm voting for. (Proposal to increase no. of non-members allowed to be co-opted to Board from 3 to 5)

Without a librarian it's just a book storage area, not a library
We agree but add this: the #GreatSchoolLibraries campaign highlights that all children need a school library because adequately funded, staffed school libraries deliver enhanced & independent learning as well as reading & curriculum support & contribute to building lifelong readers. #Staffed

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.
