2. "Because The Night" by Patti Smith Group

I bought Horses bc a girl I had a crush on at school was carrying it around under her arm (as you did). Couldn't fathom it, but then Easter came out, and I've loved this song, and Patti, ever since.

Your annual reminder that the most revealing difference between Irish and Scottish Gaelic is definitely in the words for December: Mí na Nollag (Month of Christmas) in Ireland, and An Dubhlachd (the Blackness) in Scotland. So once again may I wish you all a lovely Blackness.

Perfect Tom Stoppard story from DTel obituary:

His response to a letter from Harold Pinter canvassing support for a proposal to have the Comedy Theatre in London rechristened the Pinter Theatre, “Have you thought, instead, of changing your name to Harold Comedy?”

Two things stand out about this picture:

1. a political leader embracing rather than demonising asylum seekers;

2. the beautiful clothes the Afghan girls are wearing, and which they are free to show in public.
It’s not where we come from that counts, it’s about where we’re going.

Great to meet Afghan Scots children at Maryhill Burgh Halls and hear a lovely rendition of Robert Burns.

Arcadia's a brilliant play. I've seen several productions of it and it's never less than interesting. I think many of his scripts were director- and actor-proof in the best way. #TomStoppard

I remember a Stoppard story about interviewing for a job at the Evening Standard.
Interviewer [studying CV]: I see you're interested in politics.
TS: Yes, that's right.
Interviewer: Can you tell me who is the home secretary?
TS: Look, I said I was 'interested'. I'm not OBSESSED.

Had to include a tribute band in my list, to give an accurate impression of who I am. My first was about 10yrs ago, a Doors band (forgot their name). They were ace and stayed in character all the time. Still wish the friend i went with hadn't told me later that 'Jim' was actually called 'Willie' tho

no idea why The Farthest isn't more highly regarded. I saw it at Ed Film Fest when it was released (twice), bought the DVD and watch it every year around xmas. It's so uplifting. The ppl who made Voyager all very old but still like kids who made a super-cool toy

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.
