In a few days Flight Simulator 2024 is out
You might think it's just another video game

In reality it's the latest in a 40y+ series pushing the boundaries of graphics & mapping

Let me tell you the Story of how Microsoft accidentally made the best map

What are some of the greatest contributions of SRTM?

I'm looking for real world application, uses cases.

Best lead so far is a 2011 "SRTM DEM and its application advances" that goes over some research papers + shows it was used in some natural disaster mapping

The more specific the better

A few radar images made their way into Johnny Harri’s last video about War in Space

And I couldn’t help but smile seeing my name in the corner there too!

Nearly 2y after its initial release my video on satellite images passed 100k views!

4 videos in this channel:
1 with > 50k
1 with > 100k
1 with > 500k

Very excited so many people are interested about satellite images & maps

I'm looking for any info about how & why it was decided to use the Space Shuttle do create SRTM in 2000

A few questions I have:
- How of the world had we mapped in 3D before 2000?
- Why the Space Shuttle over a dedicate satellite (or pair of satellites)
- How the data was processed

If you’re a @cloudnativegeo.org in Utah and want to nerd out about:
- 🐍 Python Serverless
- ⚙️ Scaling geospatial workflows in 1 line of code
- 🏎️ Speeding up Data Science workflows

Hit me up!

I’ve really been enjoying reading Mr Money Mustache’s back catalog of blogs over the last few months
His latest today on the current status of the stock market is no exception. Great read: stay calm and stay the course, wild times are the norm

www.mrmoneymustache.com/2025/02/25/s...
Wow, have you seen the stock market lately?
– And by lately, I mean the past several years or more.  The value of the S&P 500 index of stocks, where most of us hopefully have a good chunk of our retirement savings stashed into…

My first demo of Fused to a live audience at @geomob.bsky.social London yesterday!

Catching up a with familiar faces -and new ones- is always nice!

It's nice to get some live feedback from people rather than doing everything online / remotely

If you were present and want to follow up, hit me up!

I’m in London for Geomob London tonight!

Managed to enjoy the sun while it’s out this afternoon

If you’re in town and want to nerd out about maps & geospatial come along

@gregmilner.bsky.social big fan of your book PinPoint! I'd really like to have a chat but can't get a hold of you but I do see you're following me here so: Hi 👋

What's the best way to get in touch? 😄

I’ve listened to a bunch of podcasts with authors, but don’t remember any with editors

Are there good conversations with editors talking about their craft? Helping others write better?

I'm doing more & more research on the history of GPS and I'm amazed by the official US Gov's dedicated website for GPS: gps.gov

It's so old school it actually looks cool
And it ends up quite easy to navigate (would have been ironic otherwise)

For the last few years I’ve taken some time to write about the past year around the new year period

I like to take some time to think about work, relationships, health, finances, what I’ve spent my free time doing

Do you do something similar? If it’s public send me your writing

Every once in a while I think about all the people out there working in projects that aren’t ready yet

Movies, hardware, code, video games, books

Things that will become a big part of people’s lives that don’t exist yet but people are working on today

Turns out spending half a year making a video about a game series leads to a lot of in game hours

Most played game of 2024: FS2020

1/5th of all my playing time of the year on that 1 game

The AWS favicon looks a lot like the Vision Pro's Photo icon to turn 2D images into 3D

Special thought to @davidimel.com: Is the cube the sparkles emoji of "spatial computing"?

I can’t believe I have to ask for this:

Does anyone have good, basic iOS calculator app recommendations?

Loosing the ability to do the same operation again by hitting = is a huge annoyance

I really enjoyed @kylebarron.dev 's interview on the CNG website about his background and then the usefulness of cloud native geo formats

I've been looking for a good, concise resource to 1. read on and 2. send people to for "WHY" we need cloud native formats
Any recommendations?

I have 2 main takeaways from my trip in NYC:

- The city is way more billable that I expected.
- Entrées are starters, not mains. It’s so confusing

The Verge is launching a subscription

As someone who sorts does some work in media (in part) now I'm very interested in looking at how bigger orgs are trying to make sustainable, well funded, well reported on journalism

I really hope this works for them

www.theverge.com/2024/12/3/24...
Here we go: The Verge now has a subscription
A lot of our site will remain free, but you can now pay to get fewer ads and unlimited access to all of our work.

ESA has these cool ads in Amsterdam’s airport

Makes me smile to see Sentinel 2 images in the airport

But I have no idea why it’s branded as Ariane 6, when Ariane didn’t send Sentinel 2 🙃

This was a really informative read!

My favourite part though:
