For your consideration. I think FT's an important writer and if he's willing to stay here, he should be able to.
For over a year now I’ve worked so hard and tried everything I could to avoid this. But I couldn’t save enough, so here we are.

I made a Gofundme. Depending on the outcome I will either hire an expensive immigration lawyer and give it one more try, or pack up and use the money to start over.
Donate to Help FT Stay Here...Or Start over, organized by F Theory
Short version first: I’m an undocumented freelancer/gig worker with no health insu… F Theory needs your support for Help FT Stay Here...Or Start over

RE starbucks picket line--the relevant detail is "picket line, do not cross." Pass that along. Proclaiming that you are in no danger of doing so because you are too aesthetically pure to let Starbucks coffee pass your lips is...unhelpful and does not give the impression you perhaps imagine it does.

Predictable but still amazing to watch people who spent literally years accusing every librarian, teacher, and trans person they could find of sexually grooming children suddenly throw themselves in with "actually it's ephebophilia"
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

Tremendous time at Pandemonium tonight! Thanks to all who showed up. It gets me to my heart, to talk with folks who have been reading this series since we were all starting out, who’ve trusted me on this journey. I am very grateful and very lucky.

The greatest trick rich and horrible people ever pulled is convincing us they were interesting.
Something that’s so striking in these emails is how…unimpressive Epstein is. He comes off as a pompous, sub-literate lech. Yes everyone is so mortifyingly solicitous of him! All fawning and flattery! Why?????

Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

I love this.

My pet theory ever since Timothy Dalton was cast as Rassilon has been that Bond is in fact Rassilon, who crashed in the UK in the 40s with amnesia after the Time War, sort of a Corwin of Amber situation
Alternate idea: Bond is literally the incarnation of Cold War excess and paranoia, a kind of god a la @maxgladstone.bsky.social 's LAST EXIT. Movie is from someone else's POV as an immortal, flickery Bond turns ordinary situations into international conspiracy by his very presence

"You can't take three from two,
two is less than three,
so you look at the four in the tens place"
One of the things that gets lost in translation is how rhythmic & fun to read the prose of the original Journey to the West is.
Best way I can describe it is "Imagine if Dragonball was Written instead of Drawn"

Esp. when for most of its existence, this is how story would've actually been read:

This is a really hard day and I want to just add as WIRED's politics editor -- WIRED's politics reporting isn't going anywhere. We are very much here and won't stop.

Please continue to read and support us - canceling your subscription to WIRED is not standing in solidarity with our journalists.
The key thing to watch here: they fired a Wired political reporter. That’s the title doing the most effective, pointed work. Teen Vogue’s stuff was culturally impactful, but less focused on investigating the administration. Within the Condé portfolio, Wired and the New Yorker are the canaries.
New: Conde Nast fired four employees who were among a group that confronted the company's head of human resources on Wednesday over the decision to fold Teen Vogue into Vogue/recent cuts. Employees who were fired included journalists from the New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appétit.

The first paragraph here especially also feels like it's a lot of the point of Dead Hand Rule by @maxgladstone.bsky.social. The Skazzerai, and some of the entities dedicated to opposing them, have all internalized that idea, and the idea that one might not play bigger-fish games is incomprehensible.
to quote @slacktivistfred.bsky.social, vampires fear the cross *because* it is powerless.

Every race. It’s basically been every race.

Governors. Mayors. Long-held GOP dog-catchers. School boards. Water boards. Flipped a dungeon master in a rural Iowa D&D club. State senators. State reps. A janitor in Duluth. State justices. Three GOP Uber drivers.

Just everything.
