Some more shots of the lions keeping watch over the city.

It’s always a thrill to see the library lions dressed up in their holiday wreaths.

Eclectic Friday night book delivery! Love how slim the Nelson and Doty are. Bite sized reads.

See the climber half-way up this glacier? It’s my incredible, adventurous kid. And today she turned 18! I love her so much and am so proud of her. What an amazing life moment to raise a child to an adult. Feeling very grateful and happy.

Fun fact: we spotted Joe Keery from Stranger Things at the Patti Smith concert. I forgot to tell you all. My family is very into this show, so this was a fun star sighting for us.

I have raised a kid who knows to send me snow pics from college, and I am very pleased about this.

Isn’t it cool how a new book brings a new energy into your house? It’s almost like a whole new person has arrived. Anyway, I’m excited to read Devin Kelly’s debut novel!

I learned a new word tonight. Love when that happens.

Oh now max is looking at me. Sweet little pup.

Max’s view of the fire.

Max loved our walk too! So nice to be out of the city to let him off leash.

Life doesn’t get better than a glorious golden-hour walk with family. To me, beaches are most magnificent when it’s cold and wintry.

Finished this today. Gorgeous. Patti Smith has had such an interesting life marked by wild brilliance & deep tragedy. Much of the book is about grief. I didn’t find the memoir as riveting or well-written as Just Kids. It has a summarized quality at times. But I still enjoyed & am glad to have read.

Happy Thanksgiving, lovely friends. I hope you have eaten well today. My favorite part of the day has been a slow, windy walk along the dunes with my family.

One of my very favorite moments in Miriam Toews’s A TRUCE THAT IS NOT PEACE. To sit and hold the baby was enough. Indeed, it was everything. As we all run around this holiday season, I want to keep this passage in mind. Doing just what we can is a lot.

I’m tickled to see Gingko trees having a peak fall yellow moment, but also lit up below with winter holiday lights round their trunks. The juxtaposition of seasons feels kind of “off,” but that’s exactly why I dig it.

It’s nice to get a tiny piece of good news when you’re sick and grumpy. Grateful to American Short Fiction. Sending congratulations to the winners. This story is in my collection which I hope to share someday.

Still miserable because bronchitis, but at least there’s Miriam Toews to help me ponder the weird sadness and beauty of life.

I’m in bed with a very unpleasant cold. But this is a lovely book to read when sick:

This picture encapsulates what I wish I could do with writing. Multiple textures & colors. Layers of depth. The view pulling you deeper & deeper into a scene that keeps surprising. Oh, red leaves. Oh, ripples of water. A bridge. People on path in the far distance. Skyscrapers. Clouds. Light…

I found another bald cypress changing colors in Central Park! And it’s huge! With a moody view of Belvedere Castle behind it.
