The right editor helps, too. And when you find the right editor, you cling to them like your career depends on it. Which it often does.
I've worked with Matt a lot. Like a LOT a lot. Mirror's Edge was in 2008, people! And it used to be that a good week was getting a 10-page digital-first chapter done. That was still WAY faster than other artists could manage, mind you. But 25 pages a week? That is pure love of this specific story.
If people take anything from my productivity, I hope it's that this job is a lot better and easier when you're making the things you really want to make and not that you have to draw an insane number of pages every day.

You should come out and see Ron!

(And I did the cover for this book. AND the art on the bottle!)
This Thursday, from 6-8 p.m. in Albany, we're holding a launch party and signing for Awakened Spirits, the ghostly comic I wrote for Albany Distiling Company's coffee vodka. The limited edition comic and vodka will be on sale.

Five pages a day!? Sweet jeebus.

Working Wednesday: Adjusted my 2026 work schedule this morning based on some things I can't talk about for a little bit.

You know my favorite thing about "AI"? It's how pretty much any painted fantasy or sci fi cover now reads as "AI"-generated to me. Really love that. Yep. It's great.

(It is not great. It's terrible. Really freaking terrible.)

This article HAS to be some sort of clickbait fever dream of the "THEY RUINED BOND" mob that somehow made it to print.

There's no screenwriter worth their salt that doesn't already have 5 solutions to the NO TIME TO DIE problem and several ways to subvert the most obvious ones already.

Comics, coffee vodka, and Albany ghost stories blend in "Awakened Spirits," the new comic from Albany Distilling Co.'s John Curtin and writer Ron Marz. (I've read it, and unlike most "promotional comic" projects, it's really good - esp. if you're interested in local lore.) Read all about it here:

One of my dearest friends just got their copy of THE OCTOBER GIRL Book One and said the store had sold out of all their other copies and that just makes me so absurdly happy. Both that my friend got my book AND that other people are buying it, too.

A very nice brief but deep dive into THE OCTOBER GIRL Book One, courtesy of Comic Construction on YouTube, which rightly praises @maverickogn.bsky.social's fantastic design work and totally nails the influence @teddykristiansen.bsky.social's work has had on my art approach to the book.

Another weekend, another round of "Can Matt keep this short story to 20 pages or is he just going to keep going like he usually does?"

For the record, this was going to be a 13 page story, and it's already going to be at LEAST 20. SO I lost THAT round.

If you missed it yesterday, the "behind the scenes" video I put together for LibraryCon Live 2025 is up on @maverickogn.bsky.social's YouTube page. Features a look at SoNo Comic Book Factory, a lot of me yapping about comics, and a cameo from my studio mate, @plasticfarm.bsky.social!

Kelly is fantastic, by the way. She's on the short list of people I'll work with any time I can. You should hire her. Like, now.

Finally put on @realgdt.bsky.social's FRANKENSTEIN while drawing this morning and I had to turn it off because I couldn't pull my eyes away from it. Just an absolutely gorgeous movie, even on the screen in my studio. Can't wait to watch the rest. When I don't have 10 pages of comics to draw.

Spending the day working out the last two books of one series while waiting for the contract for one series that's already completely done and thinking through the concepts for my next two series while also waiting to hear back about another series I really want to do.

So, yeah...

Every time I see @danagould.bsky.social on a podcast I like him more and more.

I've always loved his standup and writing, but he is just so entertaining in interviews. And if you're a huge horror nerd, the man is even more of a horror nerd than you are.
