I'm all for transparency in theory. In practice, considering people currently get review bombed, doxxed, death threats, rape threats, and wild defamation thrown their way when certain folks even have a whiff of SUSPICION of AI being used, I'd say that Sweeney is completely correct here.

Nostalgia for past eras of entertainment has blinded so many of us into thinking the entertainment industry hasn’t mostly been mediocre on any given year.

The great stuff we tend to remember more than the constant mediocrity of past decades.

So you liked the art until you saw it was AI? That is 100% a *you* problem, lol. It is totally within your power to just, I dunno, get over it?
thought this was sick for like 2 seconds and then i saw it's AI lmaoooo 🍅🍅🍅

We occasionally get questions about whether we use AI.

Yes. Just like Bluesky. Just like the majority of software projects these days.

It's especially unrealistic to expect projects without serious funding to not use AI and try to compete.

I realized something funny on my millionth binge of New GIrl. Schmidt would LOVE AI, use ChatGPT for emails and efficient marketing strategies, and use Sora to make self-aggrandizing videos. Nick would HATE AI, fear the machines taking over, and write his next zombie book on a typewriter in protest.

Call me a "corporate bootlicker" all you want; it's amazing how so many online have deluded themselves into thinking they know better about something than people with market experience and heaps of data we don't have. No, random Redditor, you do not know more about tech than big tech companies, lol

I'm starting a movement. Rather than try to counter with an argument like "let people enjoy things," let's hit these folks back with a term of our own. They call our beliefs anti-intellectualism. I henceforth call theirs "artistic solipsism."
November 25, 2025 at 12:12 AM
I'm gonna call folks like this "art solipsists" from now on. People who think what they consider well written is what the universe must as well, and any other opinions, rather than just from people with different perspectives, are "wrong" and "uninformed."
if your view of rogue one is that it is a "well-acted and well-written action flick" then i'm just going to assume you've never seen a movie before
November 25, 2025 at 12:02 AM
"If this movie doesn't adhere to my personal tastes, it is a bad movie and you are stupid for enjoying it" type energy, lol
i'm sorry but i hate this shit. i like genre films a lot. it's like, the whole premise of my podcast. but there's nothing about being a fun and light genre film that means it must be poorly constructed or even lack an actual protagonist.
Or, movies are art/entertainment and that means wildly different things to different people.
November 24, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Nah.
One thing the "LeT pEoPLe eNjOy tHiNgS" crowd never seem to get is that enjoying something and that thing being Actually Good are two very different things.

I swear, Edge is like the Robbie Williams of internet browsers. It's perfectly fine, totally acceptable, in fact very good at what it does even... it's just most of us (especially here in America) absolutely REFUSE to engage with it out of principle.

This isn't a dumb fan. This isn't a grifter. This is a professional critic's review of Wicked: For Good, complaining that they couldn't see a different movie they've already seen because the movie actually in front of them to review was in the way.

I will NEVER respect criticism as a profession.

I think there's a special dislike I have for people who keep saying things like "why do movies not look like movies", or "it looks like it was shot on a phone!", which a) is not true, b) demeaning and ignorant to people who work on films, and c) an excuse for only liking movies when you were 10.

I love practical as much as I love digital.

The potential of both to be awesome is equal to their potential to be terrible.

It, as always, is up to the filmmakers.
