I don't promote my writing very often (ironically because I'm usually busy writing in my spare time), but I'd like to feature my two novels today, THE SOCIETY OF EXPERIENCE and most recently RADIOLAND.

Both are mind-bendy urban literary fiction with generous doses of dark spec blended in.

Geneticist here. Anyone telling you that they can just change intelligence (which isn't what IQ measures well anyways) by fiddling with a few genes is just straight-up grifting, it doesn't work like that. And yes it's basically definitionally eugenics.
I saw this ad on the train and I’m curious how yall feel about it… I’m very much in the center, but slightly more towards than against…

Apparently Spielberg asked Tom Stoppard to write the screenplay for Jaws, but Tom said he couldn’t as he was writing a play for the BBC.

"I'm offering you a fortune to collaborate with me on a Hollywood blockbuster, and you turn me down to write a play for BBC TV?"

"No," Tom said, "BBC Radio."

Here's a question I've been meaning to ask the gang: I'm looking for a streaming jazz station that isn't trying to be Jazz For Everybody™️. In other words, no cloying interpretations of pop songs, decent balance between eras and/or hosts worth checking out. Lemme know!

Everyone seems to have quietly come to the same conclusion, that this is the weekend where the Xmas tree goes up. On my #runTO along Dupont yesterday, I swear every fifth car had a tree on the roof. And yes, we decided before the weekend to do the same (mind you ours is artificial). 🎄

Lenya was in the studio when Armstrong recorded "Mack the Knife," which is why he improvised the line "and Miss Lotte Lenya!"

I worked on a film w/ Udo Kier in it--Guy Maddin's KEYHOLE--and was surprised to see him at the TIFF after-party (he must've been in town shooting something else). I was tempted to introduce myself, but was super intimidated and didn't want to make an ass of myself.

Same goes with instrumental jazz
When I worked at a bookstore, I quickly learned that people cannot tell the difference between Xmas music and any Baroque or Elizabethan music album that doesn't get too organ-ish. I used this to my advantage.

One customer caught on... AND THANKED ME
If we had to hear “Baby Shark” everywhere we went for two whole months out of the year we’d throw a fit, right?

And rightfully so.

So tell me, why do we put up with it when the song is “Frosty the Snowman”?
