so I had this thought, but for football, most of them are already near the tops of their career / making over a million a year in salary. I stupidly assumed they wouldn't care about points as much....but you're probably right. I bet this really is part of the calculus

We do have this scenario built in with the baseball selection committee. If you lose the dice roll, your fundraising suffers because you were up too late watching Long Beach play Fullerton on a random Tuesday
That needs to be a decision item in AD5000

this not a trolling question i promise

but if you're a P4 AD, why would you WANT to be on the playoff selection committee?

1) Mitchell is a great reporter. I'd be thrilled to publish freelance works from him, and I hope he gets a job soon.

2) Vox needs to either let SB Nation sunset with dignity or commit resources to actually run it. Doing this slowmotion bleed out is unfair to readers, staffers, and shit, even brands
Hitting free agency soon.

DM’s are open.

Boy, if there's one thing everybody can agree on after today, its how important it is to only send and receive good email from good people

whats so wild is that before the season, multiple MAC admin types were telling me "UMass is spending actual money in the portal. they took transfers that we wanted. We lost dudes to UMass."

they weren't supposed to be GOOD but I was hearing that they should have been at least competitive!
UMass is 0-9 and playing 2-7 NIU. NIU is up 38-0 just after halftime and has run the ball 19 consecutive times on back to back to back touchdown drives

This UMass team might be the worst college football team of the century

as if we needed another reminder that a) trump supports capping athlete compensation and b) trump and Trumpism does not give a single flying fuck about free market economics....then here you go:

Trump calls for ‘powerful caps’ on college athlete salaries over fears of schools going ‘out of business’
Trump told ESPN host Pat McAfee that he fears that “lesser” sports are being scrapped due to the practice of directly paying athletes on top of name, image and likeness (NIL) sponsorshi…

I actually filed like, 1700 words about this for tomorrow's extra points newsletter, because this reporting is making me realize theres a lot I dont know about stadium concessions

but tl;dr, it totally depends on the school. some places give me itemized lists by beverage. others just say UNITS SOLD
Do we have a breakdown by alcohol types like beer, wine, cocktails or does the data only fall under “booze”?
November 12, 2025 at 9:34 PM
me when another batch of college booze and hot dog sales come in and it's time to update the spredsheets

think i'll blog about more stadium concession stuff this afternoon

This is where my wife is, and I don't blame her, or anybody else, that has reached this conclusion. If anybody decided "fuck church im out" after {gestures to everything}, I get it.

I'm trying to find something different and more healthy. But boy I think i'll be mad FOREVER about being lied to.
I left the faith many years ago, and the Christian conservatism has dissuaded me of any chance to reconcile with the church, even in a casual sense.
November 12, 2025 at 3:06 PM
behold! the end result of the conservative Christian values movement!
Wait, I'm supposed to believe that the convicted child sex trafficker who was inexplicably moved to a minimum security prison after an interview with the president's personal lawyer and who the president's allies have been portraying as a victim has blackmail material on the president?

in this spirit, I've just sent out 30 more FOIAs to mid and low-major institutions, asking for topline financial disclosure metrics on revenue sharing payments. Tried to get a good cross section of states, conferences and budget size.
NEW EXTRA POINTS:

Schools, large and small, are dragging their feet on releasing ANY sort of athlete compensation or House settlement figures via open records request.

Their arguments are not convincing. Releasing the files will help (almost) everybody.

www.extrapointsmb.com/p/forget-com...
Forget "competitive harm." Just release the NIL files.
Keeping House data private doesn't help anybody ... except probably agents.

One thing I am learning from my last FOIA-blast to athletic departments about alcohol and hot dog sales is a lot more schools completely outsource all of their concessions *everything* than I thought.

Gotten more "great story idea, we don't have this data" responses than actual numbers so far
November 10, 2025 at 7:31 PM
I still have to use Twitter for my job/beat too (I dont care if you scream at me about this) and while this place has a lot of problems for talking about sports stuff, the quality of Twitter responses I get has fallen off even more. I get way more "eat shit pussy" responses than I used to
i parachute into X/Twitter a lot for my job and obviously have chronicled the devolution but today it feels that, even outside of the realm of groyperposting the broad culture there is just like *i have lead poisoning*
