A case of status quo bias? The preference for the current state of affairs, leading individuals to resist change even when new options offer improvements.

Whilst many gladly accepted an offer of free access to Maths Advance, others did not respond. It was a genuine offer...just message me. #maths

Year 10 Mathletics at lunchtime. These learners have signed up to spend their own time answering - or trying to in the case of the Collatz Conjecture - unusual and challenging questions. 35 minutes very well spent.

Your school can have full access to Maths Advance until the end of 2025/26 for only £120. How much does it cost to enter your learners into a single 60-minute maths challenge once per year?

Opportunity presented. There is no decision to make.

Some learners want regular challenge. Their ambition can be a powerful example for their peers. Maths Advance can facilitate this and contribute to the creation of positive learning cultures. Print off one of our challenge questions - they are free to access - and stick it on your classroom door.

ABCDE is a regular pentagon.
BCF is a straight line.
AB and DE are tangents to the circle.

Show that DCF is isosceles.

What problem-solving tips might give your learners for this question? Or is teaching problem-solving like chasing shadows? Perhaps a good idea is but a click away...

What would be your method to find the length of the black line? What hints would you give your learners? To complete in class/at home/extension club?
