Icon from Doomtown, best card game ever made
Lovely lovely movie, BBC doesn't show it enough and should

Capitalism and free enterprise aren't the same!

The biggest trick the capitalists have played is to persuade people they are--Adam Smith was VERY clear capitalists seek monopolies whenever they can, Govt is meant to stop them

Not take bribes and let them do what they want :-(

I would say from that picture they're cooked to perfection

They are a notoriously annoying thing to cook but there are ways to make them pretty good always

And I've rarely if ever had one that wasn't nice to eat even if it didn't look as good as those

For everyone: Kenji Lopez Alt did a brilliant research article on making them in The Food Lab for Serious Eats

My father in law is a retired chef and we live in Yorkshire, he says it's a great article and he learnt stuff
The Best Yorkshire Pudding Recipe
The secret to the ultimate Yorkshire pudding is making the batter in advance. The result is Yorkshire pudding that rises tall, is tender and lightly chewy.

A medical professional that made sure you filled in all the damn paperwork?

Yeah, that's gold dust that is

This, all of this. I mean, I personally don't own two copies, I own one and my partner owns one, but apart from that :-D

This is the correct and normal response :-D

And sometimes they get dragged back out of that by a random casting that breaks big—I first saw David Harbour as a suspect of the week in Elementary

“Can I see the licence?”
“No that really will not do,
you cannot see the licence
As we’re waiting for review”.

“But I need to see the licence,
It’s what I need to do,
If I don’t see the licence,
You’ll have no review”.

You have reminded me that yeah, full rowing charge at a fairly high level, now live so far from the sea it's unlikely I'll ever row in it again let alone take a boatfull of kids anywhere

There was a pub around the headland from Paignton Harbour that had a small wharf, very popular with Ventures

I had to look him up and I do love the random weirdness of Wiki bios
"While in Plymouth, the couple married at the parish church in Tormoham, Devon"

Ah, no, not while IN Plymouth, there's quite a lot of moorland between Torquay and Plymouth, kinda famous for it in fact

At the moment if I'm coming home at vaguely rush hour the train to Hudds and rail replacement bus is preferable to the train to Vic that goes on to Brighouse, because those platforms are such a PITA

Need to get some rail ministers to actually use the local railways, maybe move the DoT up here

And for avoidance of doubt

"No break greater than 1 hr yesterday" according to my labeller-I follow a bunch of people that sometimes get the 4hrs label because, well, ADHD sleep disorders but I've never seen the 1hr label outside automated news feeds

I hadn't noticed them follow me, they don't now

Cornwall is really pushing for recognition as its own region/'nation', some of the nationalists are sane rational people, others, well: they made up the cream/jam first thing in the 90s but now it's a crucial part of "Cornish Identity"

Yeah

It's one of the reasons I'm reading up on Dumnonia :-D
December 8, 2025 at 4:55 PM
Exeter would be logical if the Cornish Nationalists hadn't forgotten SW Devon was Dumnonian speaking until after the Norman conquest and not fully anglicised until the prayer book rebellions

If it includes Cornwall it has to be close--Saltash or Bude, Tavistock could work (just)

Yeah, back in 2001 I was involved in the SW Constitutional Assembly thing, and we HAD to use the Treasury Regions as the only option, and therefore it had to be capital: Bristol which meant it was doomed to complete failure

It needs to properly expand its borders and everyone needs to grow up :-(
