May work as a nice interim solution if compilation is too slow until I switch to Linux, thanks!

I'm still going to switch OS regardless because I'm fed up of Microsoft's decisions with ramming AI into every little corner, as well as Recall and such.

Yeah, I've been wanting to switch to Linux for a while but I'm currently trying to work out what programs I may need to substitute / give up to actually switch fully as well as what distro I want to go with, and it has not been an easy task at all.

Windows filesystem, since my PC runs Windows (for now), I'm still trying to do more research on Linux distros and work out what would be best for me, and what I may need to sacrifice to switch OS.

I haven't used Bevy in a while, but the last time I tried on Windows itself, first-time compilation took several minutes and it was painful. Never worked out how to set it up with WSL 2.

The term was apparently coined by Anna Harren who passed away after battling with cancer, there's even an entire website dedicated to it, and this: github.com/rust-lang/ru...

There are countless risks involved, and most of them can be worked out through rigorous testing, but if things aren't handled with extreme care and caution, a rewrite won't solve those issues, it'll just make more of a mess.

Rust itself is great if used properly, but I have to agree, it is definitely jammed into places where it doesn't need to be, I'm all for fast, safe & reliable software, but Rust isn't a magic cure-all.
November 9, 2025 at 4:25 AM
This has to be the biggest problem that I've encountered with Rust, Bevy alone takes ages, especially on Windows, where a lot of the steps that are meant to speed it up are not possible.

I love some of its features, especially the learning experience, but the compiler is very heavy on the CPU.

I mean, just look at the #FreeSchlep movement, Roblox already fails to keep their players safe and moderate the platform properly, so WHY is everyone so eager to have the same issues they already have??

It's hard enough keeping a small community of 30 people safe, let alone platforms of this size.

No worries, good luck to you too!

This post came up in the Rustlang feed for me, and as a complete beginner myself, I have to say, Rust has been really interesting so far, despite my only experience really being with Lua, Java and a bit of C++ in the past.

I recommend reading the Rust Book and trying Rustlings to get a feel for it.

Exactly this, well-written Rust code usually runs around the same speed as well-written C++, it's a very efficient language if you use it properly.

C++ & Rust both have their places in the world.

Got to love the gatekeeping here.

I'm learning Rust atm (can't wait to see how you reply to that information), a developer is not defined by being "unable to manage their own memory" but rather by designing efficient, safe and reliable software. NOT by the language they use.

(I definitely did not spend 10 minutes trying to work out how to open a terminal at the bottom of my LazyVim setup for the lesson)

Bluesky has its own share of issues, but at least I can customize the feeds I see to avoid all of that stuff more than I can on X.
September 24, 2025 at 3:32 AM
This is also the X experience at this point, I can't go 5 minutes without seeing either: Elon's account, something about Trump / Biden / Kamala / Putin / Zelensky or some stupid crypto / AI bro.

On top of that, like I said already, there's literally no need to attack the contributor over that decision. I agree that not everything needs to be rewritten in Rust immediately, but I do not agree with harassing contributors for choosing to use the language.
September 21, 2025 at 3:55 PM
Yeah, just had a scroll through his Twitter page, there's no need for politics to be attached to everything, especially when that thing is as simple as a programming language.

Rust is a tool just like C, C++, Java, Lua or any other programming language out there.
