Richard Horton, The Lancet's editor-in-chief, haaates patients and seems to have worked both publicly and behind closed doors to suppress criticism of the trial. The Lancet has the ethics of Andrew Wakefield on this stuff.

My guess about this is that athletes are more likely to return to exercise sooner after an acute illness and that overexerting while your body is still recovering can be causal.
