I'm not even talking about this solely for my own sake, but for consumers, too--this destruction of function (which also happens to come at the cost of supporting human lives) should infuriate you. They are taking away a deeply necessary service, telling you they don't care if you need it or not.

Yeah! Believe me, I tried going for their freelance transcription/captioning positions, but they won't hire people in California for some reason???

A few years ago, CaptionMax was bought and absorbed by 3Play Media. And guess what! Today, they use AI in their workflow, because of course they do.

I can certainly do that in a little while.

I would be surprised if they put closed captions on their retail discs at all. Not impossible, since it does happen from time to time, I just hadn't ever heard of this being done for One Piece.

It'd mostly just be description of the kind of music playing, musical notes for lingering music, and sound effect descriptions.

Closed captions do include audio description, not just transcription of dialogue, so it's fine.

This problem is seeping into the very work for television and streaming that I started this career in 8 years ago. Don't think I didn't consider returning to where I started! One problem: the company I worked for in 2017 functionally no longer exists.

Closed captions aren't just some "neat" additional thing to have. In some cases it's the only way many people are able to competently consume media. But fuck those people, am I right? Money is so much more important than people, just like with every other topic or issue in this world.
