I think it’s time to resurrect my old pinned tweet: It’s very hard to parent in a declining democracy.
This is so depressing and bleak.
When I ask them: "What are you reading? What are you watching? What are you listening to?" Often, the answer is: nothing. Which has a direct effect on their over-use of prompts and AI, because they can't think of ideas, because they are literally not engaging with a single figurative thing.

This is so inhumane and depraved.
I need everybody to read this and understand what’s going on. These are spouses of US citizens in the country legally. They have entry clearance and green cards, they’ve passed background checks and have no criminal records. ICE is taking them anyway.

Read this.

It is about leukemia and the powers and limits of science and the terrifying dangers of the turn against it. It is human and excoriating and beautiful. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

Grateful to @paidleaveforall.bsky.social for shining a light on the ways family caregivers have to squeeze caregiving duties into whatever time they have since we don’t have paid leave in the US, even if that’s an already busy holiday

What a nightmare. We need to ban AI slop. No one needs fake unworkable recipes.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

We warned you that self-driving cars would just create self-driving traffic jams, and here they are.

The car industry has no solution to the shortage of space in cities. Public transit, cycling, and walking are all part of the answer, but cars are not.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

This is so depressing. What if we just decided not to use these. Let’s put them out of business. No one needs these cars.

A new variant of flu A is rapidly spreading across the US. Three members of my household have had it in the last 2 weeks. The doctor at urgent care yesterday said everyone he saw yesterday had flu A. Get your flu shot and use air purifiers at your holiday meal!

I’m super fascinated by the fact that some schools give the entire week of Thanksgiving off. We always had school M-T-W as do my kids (half day Wednesday). Such a lack of uniformity in school calendars!

This is so deeply inhumane and evil.
The Trump Administration seems to be handpicking deportees to test a new approach to mass deportation: sending people to nations where they had no ties, and to places that were not safe, and where they are subject to indefinite detention abroad. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/YAjCKA

They're failing all of us.
Emmanuel, a 15-year-old with intellectual disabilities, wandered away from his mom’s fruit stand in October.

She reported him missing to Houston police. But instead of reuniting them, the city turned him over to ICE.

“They’re failing all of us,” his mom said.

What a sad but touching essay. And what an indictment of her horrible cousin, RFK, Jr.

Finally, an observation I'm onboard with:

"I have never encountered a group of people who are more competent, more full of grace and empathy, more willing to serve others than nurses. Nurses should take over."

This makes me so angry I want to scream. It is horrible that this is happening in our country, every day.
A 17-year-old high school senior from McMinnville, OR was detained by ICE during his lunch break — even after telling officers he was a citizen. An agent shattered his window and said, “I don’t care.”
This should outrage every all of us.

Great publishing industry we have here. Who did they think wanted to read this book?
Fetterman received a $750,000 advance for this with another $300-400,000 going to the actual writer.
"The Barnes and Noble in York—where Fetterman was born and raised—had sold zero copies. The Barnes and Noble in Philadelphia had sold two copies. An independent store in Pittsburgh and an independent store in Philadelphia each told me they weren’t stocking Unfettered" defector.com/john-fetterm...

I can’t stand anything Leavitt says. But this is a terrible answer: He’s a President for half of the country who didn’t vote for him. And for all the children who can’t vote. His behavior is inexcusable and unprofessional and he is a horrible model for everyone.
Q: What did the president mean when he called a reporter "piggy"?

LEAVITT: Look, the president is very frank & honest with everyone in this room. You'll all seen it yourself. You've all experienced it yourselves. And I think it's one of the many reasons the American people reelected this president

It's not a sophisticated reaction, but my response to both "quiet, piggy" and the Coast Guard okaying swastikas and nooses is a deep sadness that the compassion we're working so hard to foster in our children will not just be challenged by schoolyard bullies but by the highest levels of society.

This is infuriating! Food is a human right. The Trump Administration is inhumane in countless ways and must be stopped. When do we take to the streets?
After enacting the deepest #SNAP cuts in history & needlessly disrupting benefits during the shutdown, the Trump Administration is quietly advancing draft regulations to take SNAP away from millions more people – primarily working families with kids, seniors & disabled people.
