AWFC / Tillies. OG Fool. Chaotic Good.
From a supporter email Climate 200 sent today - a good example of how the organisation exhibits 'party-like' behaviour, as @phoebehayman.bsky.social, @bspiesbutcher.bsky.social and I wrote about @ausjpolsci.bsky.social in 2024: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Looking at the latest ACNC data on registered charities (including universities) and spotted this ridiculous rate of casualisation at QUT, the ninth biggest employer in the sector.

This is 2023 data reported to the ACNC. Almost twice as many casuals as full-time staff.

Australian Christian Lobby sends a 'Reconciliation Week' supporter email, soliciting donations, and not mentioning Australia's First Nations peoples - i.e. THE PURPOSE OF THE WEEK - at all.

Not surprising but also pretty damn audacious.

Some more ramblings about civil society organisations (CSOs) in the federal election - this time looking at different kinds of CSO and the kinds of stuff they do.

I thought GetUp used to be good at this stuff.

My take on Day 1 of civil society / third sector campaigning in the #auspol 2025 Federal election: lots of fundraising, going negative early, and a united conservative search for 'truth'.

Classy fundraising email from @australia.theguardian.com responding to Jeff Bezos tightening the editorial screws around his personal media platform this week. 👏👏

Independent media requires diversified ownership.

Like Woolworths rolling out the back-to-school specials on Boxing Day, some new year scaremongering about "activists... trying to divide us" from Advance with no evidence base whatsoever.

It's like they're just trying to push emotional buttons to raise money 🤔

Just presented with my fabulous colleagues @phoebehayman.bsky.social and @bspiesbutcher.bsky.social at #AusPSA2024 about the gender, geography and longevity of independent and minor party politicians in Australian parliaments since 1970.

In Perth this morning leading a workshop for the WA community sector around 'advocating for change in conflicted funding environments'.

Great reflections and insights around the importance of building cross-sector solidarity, trust, etc. when trying to shift institutional and corporate interests.

Presented today @ the A/NZ Third Sector conference @ Western Sydney University. Discovered that the other presenter at my session (Mel Lewis) is in my Dept at UTS Business School & we'd never met!

(I talked about approaches to advocacy: community-based, elite-oriented & partnership focussed)

A big week - secured a permanent lecturer role at UTS Business School and received an honorable mention for my paper on democratic connection for civil society organizations from the Australian Political Studies Association.
