We're in a national emergency, but we're not talking or acting as if we are.
This dangerous disconnect is why we convened the @nebriefing.bsky.social. Our goal was to reset the national conversation on the climate and nature crises, cutting through the sea of misinformation holding us back.

Electricity users will be paying a huge subsidy to Hinkley Point C as pointed out below. Then add to that the subsidy being paid to Sizewell C while it's being built, and who knows what costs we will be picking up on the SMRs.
When the UK's new nuclear power plant Hinkley Point C starts to produce power in 2030, its guaranteed 'strike price' will have risen to ~150 £/MWh (170 €/MWh). Average wholesale electricity prices will probably be around half of that, so that's a 50% subsidy.

@greenpeaceuk.bsky.social probably aware of this already.

Another example of gas power generators trying to game the electricity market to create super-normal profits.
You may remember, of course you do, how a certain 'independent' analyst got a jump in exposure by claiming that the grid was inches away from falling over in January.

Well, Ofgem looked into that day too and have released their analysis; TLDR: gas plant tried to screw the system.

This is really important. Currently the IEA is forecasting rising oil demand to 2050, but that relies on heavy trucking remaining fossil based. As China leads in turning this sector electric, the world will follow and oil demand will move into structural decline.
China replacing its diesel trucks with electric models faster than expected, reshaping China's fuel demand and the future of heavy transport, along with global fuel demand

Until we cut meat consumption the plight of wild animals will continue to deteriorate
Wild mammals once dominated the mammal kingdom. Not anymore. Today, humans and our livestock account for 98% of the world’s land mammals by weight, while wild land mammals are just 2%.

We are fighting the fossil fuel companies and the banks who fund them because they have demonstrated clearly that their priority is immediate profits above a sustainable biosphere.
BREAKING: EU Commission President @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu says “We are not fighting fossil fuels, we are fighting the emissions from fossil fuels”

She is parroting oil&gas industry lines, pushing unproven costly technologies like CCS + CO2 removals to keep using fossil fuels.

This should be the most scary thing anyone living in Europe has heard for decades. But the chance of it getting much media coverage are minimal, so few will actually know.
