Took an exploratory paddle around the Smithsonian Educational Research Center in Edgewater, MD on this lovely Saturday afternoon. No federal troops or ICE agents were there and the Oleaginous Pedophile hasn’t closed the place yet, so, yeah, it was a perfect day. Peace, y’all.

I went to a baby shower earlier this summer that featured the same activity. Here’s what I came up with (for my soon to arrive great niece):

We interrupt your doom-scrolling to let you gaze upon Twix, an emotional support toy fox terrier who offers love and smiles to travelers at Detroit’s Metro Airport. You’re welcome.

Your fine and patriotic work is now on display in our front yard in Takoma Park, Maryland. It fits in beautifully with the vibe of our lefty, sign-filled neighborhood. Thank you!

Bobby’s Bluebonnets, Austin, TX, March 16, 2025

Bobby is my brother-in-law. His backyard garden is a beautiful oasis of native plants, with a few dollops of Texas whimsy thrown in for good measure. Happy spring!

As I was making my holiday pies this morning, I recalled that Kamala Harris can crack eggs with one hand and thought, not for the first time, "Yep, that's the kind of hand you want steering the ship of state."

Happy holidays from the land of woulda, coulda, shoulda. Stay strong. Find the helpers.

Last night we lit the first fire of the season and mixed a couple of delicious Boulevardiers to celebrate the deactivation of my Xitter account. Bluesky, I'm all in. Here's to The Good Place and to all you shiny, caring, clever, hardworking fighters for democracy. Hang in there!

Happy Thanksgiving, good people of Bluesky. I'm so grateful for this kind, smart, caring emerging community. And I'm really glad that @smittenkitchen.bsky.social shared their recipe for this delicious bourbon pumpkin cheesecake here the other day. Easy to make, gorgeous, and 100% YUMMY!

#Cocktails of Bluesky. Manhattan in a sparkly glass. Happy Saturday before Thanksgiving, skeeters. Rest, nourish, celebrate, prepare for battle. It's going to be a long four years.

The great Sandra M. Gilbert has died. She was a brilliant scholar, trail-blazing feminist critic, fierce poet, bon vivant, beloved mentor, teacher, & friend. She & her collaborator Susan Gubar made so much possible. What a life, what a force, what a loss. Thank you, Sandra, for everything. RIP

If you see this, post a concert photo you took.

Brandi Carlile, here with bandmates the Hanseroth Twins, at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, VA, August 28, 2021. The first live show I saw after (the worst of) the pandemic.

I haven't posted much here, but I want to support this community-in-formation. Today I offer two photos of autumn light and puffy clouds on water. Those lovely blues seem to belong in a place called Bluesky. Sending love and light to each and all. And a secular but sincere prayer for peace. ☮️
