After a massive reading slump lately I’ve finished 3 books this week! These two were great.

That’s so lovely. My top recommendation for a 3 yo is Sammy and the Skyscraper Sandwich which is just a thing of beauty.

I got my annual email from the boys’ aunt yesterday checking in on what books to buy them for Christmas. What great kids books will you be buying, or what would you recommend we seek out for the kids in our lives this Christmas?

With it being #BookWeekScotland this week I want to use #KidsBookFriday to celebrate some great books by Scottish authors I’ve read recently. Can anyone else recommend some Scottish favourites? Or share some great books by authors from where you’re from.

Next week we celebrate #BookWeekScotland which this year has a theme of Friendship.

What great books that celebrate friendship would you be recommending?

I’ve still got this one on my tbr.

I’ll share Sky Dancer by Gill Lewis which is an incredibly well written, immersive read that expertly portrays the complexities around the protection of hen harriers.
It would be a great book for teachers to use to discuss the protection of nature. #UKKidLit

There’s arguments for and against before you’re 50 due to denser breast tissue. But if anything doesn’t feel right absolutely go get checked. I had cancer in my 30s which is why I have them annually but hoping to get a second mastectomy in the new year. 🤞

We absolutely do. And internal layout design. I mean I know Owen Davey is an absolute master but would you look at these pages?

I genuinely think we live in a golden age of kids non-fiction, so I’m very excited for us to celebrate #NonFictionNovember with this week’s #KidsBooksFriday.

What brilliant non-fiction would you recommend? This is another week where I can’t possibly stop at four.

This wonderful book, which Karen was kind enough to send me herself, very much got me out of my reading slump. Great, super readable, inclusive stuff.

With it being Halloween I guess we need a spooky #KidsBooksFriday. But I am also a total scaredy cat so I’ll be sticking to cosy spooky books thanks. The kids do seem to love a bit of horror though, so do recommend - just don’t expect me to read any! 🙈 👻 #UKKidLit #KidLitUK #KidLit

Great book - I also loved it.

I’ll share Punycorn by Andi Watson which is hilarious, witty, nonsense-filled adventure that makes reading a joy. #UKKidLit

Ooft, what a question. I would love all the super readable fact books and all the comic books featuring actual girls. But I might also still love engaging stories about wartime as I did when I was young. #UKKidLit

I’ve been in a right reading slump lately. I’m conscious it’s often just the right book coming along at the right time that does the trick, but what books have helped you or the kids in your life get out of a reading slump?

I don’t know this one. It looks great. In a similar vein I love Beautiful Oops and Wreck This Journal.

I’ll send you some photos of the interiors. It’s not so much maths puzzles as complex maths concepts explained in a fun and understandable and interactive way. M might also like This is Not a Maths Book which is more of an activity book.

Is it the choose your own adventure books? If so they’ve just been republished by Pushkin.

Had a lovely trip to London. The travelling was a bit much for me but I loved being on our old stomping ground and had a great time visiting the gorgeous @alligatorsmouth.bsky.social and chatting books with them. Managed to grab a signed Loki and the 10yo cracked into it straight away at the hotel.

For #KidsBooksFriday this week let’s highlight great kids puzzle and activity books. I find these are a great way to get kids to engage with physical books, particularly those who fear reading large swathes of text (as I did when I was wee). And they’re just great fun. #KidLitUK #UKKidLit #KidLit

So lovely to visit the gorgeous @alligatorsmouth.bsky.social today. I could have spent hours there and bought the whole shop. But given we’ve got to carry them back to Glasgow we had to limit ourselves. Kudos to my husband for carrying our haul round Kew Gardens all afternoon. #KidLitUK #UKKidLit
