I wish this guy had perched closer to where I was, but that was the right kind of branch for me to get a look at the usually hard to see red belly of the Red-bellied woodpecker.

For the #BirdOfTheDay theme, #waders, here's a Glossy ibis I saw today. Apparently, it needed to preen in the very spot where some ducks were resting. So, after a couple of complaints, the ducks decided it was easier to make room for it and try to sleep.

For the #BirdOfTheDay theme, #waders, here's a Glossy ibis I saw today. Apparently, it needed to preen in the very spot where some ducks were resting. So, after a couple of complaints, the ducks decided it was easier to make room for it and try to sleep.

Every day, as the lake gets drier, the search for apple snails gets harder for the Limpkins. When one of them finds a good spot for foraging, where there's still water, they don't take kindly to competition!

Today I was treated to a beautiful scene where two Great blue herons were engaged in courtship displays. They were so graceful! In the end, the female decided to fly to the other end of the lake, and the male went back to preening. Must be ready for the next opportunity!
